The driver’s party dinner on Saturday night will be catered by one of our sponsors. At this point I believe there will be a small charge something in the area of $5.00/ea but no more than that. We should have enough food so no need to bring anything unless you really want to.
Winona results:
Today started as I said in earlier post as a wet morning. It rained until about 10:30 and then it cleared into a beautiful race day. We had decent fields in all classes, but the racing was surely 1st class.
K-Pro--Todd Anderson took his first win and a bath all on the same day
125 Runabout--Two in a row for Paulie Bosnich--got wet again from Steve L.
125 Hydro--BJ Tetro--two heat wins-and a second
250 Runabout--Rich Krier--1st, 2nd, 4th, enough to "Getter Done."
350 Hydro--Jeff Kugler--untouchable 2nd race in a row for 4 heat wins, last heat everyone jumped gun.
500Hydro--Doug Hall is absolutely smoking. two heat wins, Sean Mckean took one and finished 2nd in all the others.
500 Runabout--Tony Walk was unreal in the Steve Litzell entry as he took 2 heat wins and second to Mike Thirlby in the third heat.
Nobody wet and a great weekend.
Dick Hoppenrath, WIlson, Dotseth, Walgraves, Moulder, were all back in Winona to watch this great race. Great day of racing and a great crowd.
Our thanks to the SteamBoat Festival leaders and Mayor Jerry. Also to KWNO and KG country radio for a great time. We are on the air tomorow with KG country. I do not know if they have a website, but they might and we will be broadcasting starting at 3 central time.
Again thanks to Bruce Johnson and his family along with Pete G(I'm still not going to spell it) for all the hard work.
Started at 3:30 with first heat of Top Hydro and promptly ran into an accident during milling as Pat Wright fell into a hole, the boat broached and blew over sideways. Pat was cut in the face with something, but was consious and talking to the safety crews. Do not have further info.
1100H--Ike Yoder-2 seconds. Doug Hall won one heat Sean Mckean the other, Doug did not run 2nd heat
250 H--Jeff Kugler--Doubling up for the weekend with the 350h also
350 R--Mike Thirlby--Tim Small won 2 of the heats on the water, but jumped the gun both times.
Great weekend of racing at Winona, what a beautiful place to race and what a wonderful reception by the community. Our thanks for all who helped to make this a success, and with out overdoing it, Thanks for to Bruce Johnson and his family and to PETE GRYSKIEWICZ, I did spell it!!!!!!
Drivers, do not for get that Jean needs your information for the postcards. Remember the cards were 200 for 60 and 400 for 85, but she needs the information by Friday of this week.
With that it is time to get back to work and wait for Constantine.
I drove up to watch the USTS race this weekend. What a show. I usually only attend the Pro Nationals, but decided to take in a USTS race. Congrats to all you great drivers and crews. Got to meet many of the drivers I only get to see race at the nationals, all nice people. 500 RUNABOUTS and Capsules put on a great show. Tony Walk really flies that 500. Doug Hall is also very fast in 700 hydro. Great field of 125 and 250 hydros. 250 and 350 runabouts were exciting as well. Tim Small is flying in both of those classes. I hope the driver who crashed the capsule boat is ok. Cant wait till Depue.
I forgot to get an information sheet at Winona. Does anybody have the contact information so I can order these. Thanks. Also a special thank you to Pete and all of the people who put on a great show. What a beautiful place to race. It was pretty cool for me to race at a place that my dad raced at thirty years ago. Lets go back next year.
Thanks for all the cooperation!! It is not hard to run a race when all participants work together as we all did in Winona. Special thanks to the Thirlby crew and the Jared Gryskiewicz crew, the Tom Cronk crew and the Pat Wright crew for allowing me to use their boats and tow vehicle in the parade. These entries we very popular, the city seems to be happy, the steamboat days committee seems to be happy and I am very happy. I think we will do it again next year
I am happy that you are happy.....thanks for a nice relaxing weekend I could get used to being a spectator again Everyone did an fantastic job...thanks to all the volunteers with set up, tear down and tow boats.
