Was anything removed to make room for the extra heats?

Did we not have many boats in the 80's causing eliminations quite often?? Seems I remember
maybe 36 heats over weekend.
Now there are few eliminations so although records of this is not available and the goals of the title series have changed, more classes has happened.
Membership in the pro catergory is way off from the 80's and we had to adjust because of this also.
I was trying to figure how many heats we will have now and I think its around 24 without eliminations so maybe we have more classes but fewer heats?? Anyone know for sure.
