    Home bound

I just got off the phone with Marty. He sounds great, and was waiting to hear from the hospital about maybe going home today. He said he is walking better, and didnt have much pain. He also said he should be in good shape by the WORLDS.

      Marty's on his way home.

I just received a picture of Marty being wheeled out of the hospital. Had the usual big Stahl smile on his face. The only things missing were a big cigar and a Kessler Drop. He will be getting PT at home. I'll talk to the PT nurse to whip him into shape for the Worlds. Again, THANKS everybody for your concern, kind words and thoughts and prayers. You all had a hand in this thing turning out GREAT. Will see you all at the Worlds. Rick

        Yes, it's true.

He found out around 3 pm today he would be leaving. He was in his driveway around 7:15 pm. He was the last one to come in the house. I watched him take a short circle with his walker in the driveway. I think he was taking it all in as we were, just in awe of being home. He said his pain is no longer in his legs and only by the incision in his back. Nothing like it was before. He spent the rest of the time trying to figure out which chair would be comfortable for him. Unfortunately, they are all low and hard to get out of. There will have to be some fine tuning of the furniture. Minor details. His first in-home physical therapy will take place this Friday. Slowly, but surely progress has been made. He told me tonight he asked if he'd be allowed to fly. The medical staff's answer was yes. Any guess where he plans on flying? As Rick mentioned, we cannot thank everyone enough. It really has had an impact on how things have proceeded. I handed him a bunch of his mail when he sat down, which included another handful of get well cards and wishes. We hope and pray for continued recovery. Thank you all again.
Speed costs money. So, how fast do you want to go?

That's good news to hear that Marty is at home. And enjoying a sundrop about now maybe even a Bud Light.
When I talked with Marty on Saturday night he was trying to get the doctor to release him that night because he heard Tim Small was buying the beer and he didn't want to miss out.

If Marty and I have to keep an eye on the cooler it will need to be well stocked.

                    Nic

There enough left over from Dayton to start the weekend off but after that we'll have to restock.
Maybe a little bird will stop and refill it everynight for us.
Marty I hope you enjoyed being home and are getting stronger we leave in about 25day's for the worlds

                      wonderful news

                      Hey Marty and Gang,
Great to hear the news about how well you are doing. Bring that chair up with me and we will entertain the crowd with old war stories.

So wonderful to hear that you are doing really well and look forward to seeing you in Florida.

                      Ray

JP and I spent the afternoon with Marty so Kris could run some errands. He is doing fantastic, you'd never guess he had major surgery 8 days ago. He was a good patient, I only had to fill his water jug once. I even offered him a sun drop but he turned it down.We measured up the walker to install a can holder and ashtray for his cigars. After almost three hours of talking boat racing we got him outside for some fresh air. He shuffled around the race trailer and got to stick his head in to smell the castor oil. After being in a sterile hospital for a week he said that smell pretty sweet. That was better therapy then any nurse will give him.

                          Picture Please

                          Hey Rick,

Can you share the picture here of Marty leaving the hospital? Thanks in advance. Keep believing each day, healing, and doing what the Doc says, Marty! Hope to see you in Florida next month if we can make it to the World's.

                          Best Regards,
