I heard indirectly that the surgery went as well as could be expected. Marty and his side-kick Rick have been through a lot this year. Let's hope that Marty has a speedy and full recovery. Then he and Rick can back to directing Mark and JP on how to repair those boats!!

Marty's surgery went very well. His surgery lasted 8 hours but the doctors said it went great and that they got it all out and did not have to cut a nerve. I got to talk to him last night and he asked when are we going to the next race. I will keep you posted. Thanks for everybody's thoughts and prayers.

                              Thank you and update

First of all, let me say thank you for all of the wonderful support you all have given Marty and our family at this time. The power of prayer and well wishes is amazing.
I'm not sure how many of you actually know what he is dealing with, but I'll give you a very abbreviated version. If you're really curious you can do an internet search and find more info. It's called Chordoma. The chances of having this are 1 in a million. It's basically a tumor right on the spine. It and the surgery can have many severe complications. Best case scenario according to the doctors was complete removal of the tumor with a permanent consequence of walking with a limp. I'll spare the other major risks as they are lengthy.
His surgery lasted 8 hours (as they said it could be up to 10.) They had to go in from the front, then flip him over, and go in to the back as well. The doctor reported they thought they had got everything and they did not have to cut the nerve (which was the issue that would cause the permanent limp.) His words included it went "perfect." So, up to this point things have probably gone as best they could or even better. He did have to end up spending time in ICU due to blood loss and low blood pressure. This was a risk we were informed of, but as of now is getting better (he received 2 units of blood today and his blood pressure had increased some by 5:30 pm today. He is in a lot of pain still, but is in good spirits.
When I first talked to him after surgery (via phone in recovery, because of the transfusions) he specifically said "let's go boat racing." Needless to say I was awestruck and very happy that things had gone so well. He spent a lot of time resting today and had a back brace put on. I or others will continue to update as we can. The UW hospital has been great. We are very impressed. A couple of us even were allowed to stay right there overnight. We also continue to think about the Jedwabnys. They have faced their share of adversity and we wish them the best. Rick has done a great job in his recovery of eye cancer and continues to impress us.
Let me just say again we cannot thank everyone enough for the outpouring of support we have received.
