speaking of "one wire" tachs . . .
I have one in my toolbox - one wire, no battery, no electronic parts, can get wet. Brand name "Vibrotach." Looks like a pen, even has a pocket clip. What you do is hold the tip on a running engine and slide the One Wire out of the other end. Whne the wire reachs max vibes you take a reading. Simple math required on the reading for multi-cylinders.
Course it would be difficult to operate the Vibrotach on a boat while underway :-)
