    Racin' Leg

Freddie is right, it's from the "KC13R" 100 CID from the early 70's. The 14:23 "Club" foot was originally blunt on the front like a fishin' case but the speeds soon exceeded that case shape so later ones had a pointier front.

The odd mounting pattern for the foot was a legacy of these gearcases being originally cast up for the X/GT 115 of 1967 which used the old pre-69 design (read "fat 4") shortshaft 15 inch midsection.

Later "KR15M" 8 barrel motor had a mount that incorporated a thru transom trim ram. The one on this motor is cast steel and really heavy!

A good start for a race motor restoration, all the rest except the special "bubble" back tuner can be modded up.

      Mid

In the South there were a few of these they were called adapter V 6's an ran the cross flow eng .That mid does not have up and down trim the KC 15 did. The big unit was 14/23 and ran a 25 inch prop the 1 to 1 had a diff, ex housing and looked much diff. than that and ran 16 to 18 inch props.. If that unit is 1 to 1 it is one of the first ones built useing the big gear case. The big units we had were all pointed. we had one 1 to 1 unit that was used for flow test and was not as pointed as the rest. This is how i remember it.

Both the mid in the picture on the first post and the one in Mark's picture have the up/down swivel. The up/down swivel with the bulge were early ones that were made for the KC13R update kit. The other updates were a zero-deck block, pistons and heads, hydraulic trim, and the pointy clubfoot that was already discussed.
