The Etec is an excellent motor. Owned a 50 hp before, no complaints what so ever. The starting weight for an Etec 25 is 150 lbs. you would be much better off with an older lighter 2 stroke (in my opinion for weight and price). For example a 1980's vintage 20 merc weighs 92 lbs, a pre 86 mariner/yamaha 40 hp weighs 143 lbs. You have everything in between. Check out the Muskoka Sea Flea site there are lots of people doing all kinds of stuff with pleasure outboards. You may get some good info and ideas there. Always liked pleasure engines on any boat because you can go down to the local dealer and get parts, no fussing around. Good luck with your project and have fun!!!
