wire
They use an insolated wire that loops through a connection on the back. you take the wire to your spark plug wire using a clip that is provided. you can replace the factory wire if you need it longer then what is provided.Gene Schertz 26V

Hi Mike, on the RPM no special wire. I don't remember off the top of my head what size but its just auto electrical wire. If your wire gets so long that you are not getting a good signal for the rpm, you can wrap it around the spark plug wire a time or two to boost the input signal.Gene Schertz 26V

I also checked out another place called Digatron and they have a DT31 tach version for $230 but I contacted them a couple years ago and they said they would not work on our outboards. I don't know why but thats what they said.Last edited by mercguy; 03-25-2011, 06:54 PM.Daren

The reason why the mycron is such a good tach. After you take a run, you can go back and review the whole run and see what your rpm was as you were running. So the turn shows it going down some and then the straightaway you see how your rpm gains. You might have a high speed reading for a prop but the rpm is way down in the corner. As long as you take a test run the same every time you will see what each prop is doing. We run the same lap every time. The prop makers like this info if your having them rework your props also. Its worth the investment!!!! Mikeymike ross

Digatron.....DT-6E
Works great on pointed ignitions. The newer models work on the electronic ignitions.
They are out of the great Northwest. Google them and talk to someone who knows powerboats!
I have tried half a dozen tiny tachs and they all break or don't work at all. And yes the Micron is cool but not always user friendly!.........
