Thanks Steve for all your help! Used to run Kg-4's, Kg-7's and Mark20H's back in the 70's. Not quite ready to jump yet but I really appreciate your help. Are there any other parts I'll need to convert. Will the current main drive shaft from the power head work or will I have to use a shorter racing version. Are the splines the same at the top? Thanks again!

If yer powerhead has a water inlet like the Mark-28 (early 200) and the kg-4/7/Mark 20-25....it should bolt up and the Q/H driveshaft/spline will work....If a newer powerhead and the lower water passage is more of a troth (spell check!), you may need to use a adapter plate like the 25SS to run water. Then a 25ss length shaft or a coupler/two piece drive shaft (made from your drive shaft/any early 2-cyl fish'n foot shaft) will be needed. I have found the 9/16" deep, snap-on sockets ID fits the 9/16" Merc shaft OD well, when cut to length, and welded to match/drive a short 3/8" squared "stub" drive shaft aprox 3" length from top of gearfoot...Also see if you can measure the width between the two rear studs...on new'r powerheads, this dimension is wider and you can git away without those two studs but a 25ss tower would then be prefered to use all the studs.......This is how I run my early Mark-28 25MOD/A-MOD......Will post some pics when we git back home from visit'n family next week.......Have you pulled motor down to were you can see bottom of powerhead?

PS....If yer 200 is a good complete work'n fish'n motor,....take a look around for a donor motor preferably a Mark25/28....these match the bolt pattern/water tube on the tower without any adapters.......your 20hp/200 if complete, still has alot of value as a fish'n motor......unless this is the powerhead ya WANT to use.
Years ago I ran a Mercury 250 in EORC club races which was a 22 cubic inch engine oh a 20-H tower. It will bolt right up with the exception of where the the shift linkage went through the engine crankcase. I filled this area with epoxy. The only other item you will need to make is the throttle linkage. I used one from a KG-4 setup. The engine was very fast and would blow past my conversion 20-H's. I still run the engine. If you would like photos let me know. apvw1@aol.com

Alan
Alan,
I've heard of the 250's but never saw one....we're did they fit in the 22 cube line-up?
Mark-28/28A......Early 200's(white and same tower pattern as mark28)..........late 200's(same as the 25ss)........25SS
Any idea what made a 250 dif than a 200?.....Just wonder'n
The Mercury 250 was a single model year engine built in 1962. From the outside it looked very much like the 200's with the same lowerunit that was a bit hard to work on. I have never set it along side one of my 25ss engines or compared the innards. I would assume the engines had the same basic power as the current 22 cubic inch engines. I will do a parts manual check and see if we can find some commanality.
Steve,
E mail me for photos of the 250 on the racing tower. Took some of the side that was filled in. It was very simple to do. I am restoring it so its partially taken apart. My e mail is apvw1@aol.com
