We have 3 - 44XS and don't race them. If we were, we'd probably go with the Tohatsu for all the reasons mentioned above. It is the present and future of the D class. New parts available too.

Everything I have ever read or heard about the Bass's is first class and they will stand behind their work. Go with the newer Tohatsu.

I love the 44XS, but sadly it has become a museum piece....just like the 25XS is heading for...

There is parity between the two right now....mainly because the Tohatsu has a height restriction (or at least used to), which allowed the Merc to stay competitive.

The SORC has 2 on the shelf

The SORC procured two motors to shorten wait times for motors...so if you can wait for it to be crated it should be ready to go. Then the idea was to sue the money to order another to keep them ready.....like the Mercury J motor program. A little different but same idea

I run Pro so my choice is between a Rossi or a VRP. But if I ran stock there would be no question: Tohatsu.

                Tohatsu

Want to run your Tohatsu as intended. Try a NBRA race, no height or prop restrictions.

                  phonix.....................

There is a reason it is pronounced 'TWO HOT SHOES' They have always been strong runners. I was a Tohatsu dealer for many years and even the commercial guys couldn't hurt them. I had a 40 ft houseboat (full hull) that I pushed with a 2 cylinder 55 Tohatsu. And pushed it well I might add.

                    again??

it appears this thread also went off on another track, like soooo many of them do. so, u can throw me in the ring with brian palm. blueskyracer, the tohatso can run in mod, do your thing in fe and save yourself all the bellyachin. can't wait for the typical hydro racer bashing.

I agree with Rod an Brian on this. Its really fun to sit here an read these post that some people put on here. For you guys that have nothing better to do with your time but to bash are Mod commissioners Why don't you get off your butts an go to the national meeting spend 700.00 to 800.00 of your own money an try to change things that you don't like. But intell you do that you have no room to put us down. An as for u guy that say you cant buy merc parts new for a 44cu D mod moter you do not no what you are talking about.I build up to 5 comp D mod moters every year an have no trouble getting new parts.new parts are there all it takes is a phone call. Thats my 2 cents.

                        Think again..........

As in any racing (PRO for me) it all has a price tag. I have raced Merc in the late 50's -early 60's, Quincy, Konig, and everything in between. It all depends on how badly you want to race. Don't complain.........just do it!

just to make myself clear, my blood runs phantom black....

how about you sell me a new mercury gearcase lonnie? you hypocrites keeping the tohatsu out of D-Mod would be "DONE" without the bass gearcase.

ask the 2 time national champ how fast troy is. he just doesn't care about nats. it pains me to say this but the merc is a "walking dead man".

I agree with Bill and Daren. Don't stunt growth, enhance it.

And I gather these new parts for a Merc come from a Mercury dealer?? Or home grown!

I would love to feel comfortable going D Stock speeds and then I would buy a Tohatsu if I could at least run two classes. The distance we have to go for one class makes no sense.

How 'bout we have a new argument with more clear winners like Chevy vs. Ford or Colt vs. Smith & Wesson or Coffee vs. Tea. Ultimately you will have solved just as much.
