And here is the infamous/almost unknown Merc 3-Cylinder Looper Mod 50 engine. Credits to Fast Fred on BRF/S&F for the pics. According to Fred, this resides (along with 5 others, 6 TOTAL) at Wienandt's shop. Notice the description fits exactly to B&H's previous post.Last edited by RabidGatorFan; 07-10-2009, 09:22 PM.

Carbs
I am looking for four 650XS carbs to finish an engine I'm building. I'm tired of waiting for Tillitson to produce the carbs I wanted so I think I will try the 650XS carbs if they are available. E mail me at aerolinerboat@aol.com or post here.
Thanks,
Alan

650XS Reliability and Specifications
Been reading the past posts and have been getting very excited on what I'm reading.
So whats the reliability of these engines? Are they similar to the 44XS's reliability? I realized its a racing outboard, so I know its not built like a tank.
What is the typical horsepower output at WOT? Hoping its more than 65hp. And whats the maximum average WOT RPM - 7000?
Last but not least what is the dry weight of this outboard? I read on S&F off a picture post (that I can't find anymore) that it was 180-ish.
Just recently I bought a Mercury Chopper II prop, 13 splines, 10 1/4" Diameter and 18" Pitch, would this fit on the 650XS?
Thanks,
Roshambo

Red Band 650XS's?
So were there such a type of 650XS with a red band like in this video( http://www.youtube.com/user/donaldsp.../0/YTqWVvYuKDY ), with a shift-able "fishing"gear case as well?

Certainly ... that is the difference between the XS and the X
XS was full shift, X was Speedmaster
XS was sold thru regular dealers at least 250 per year for 4 years and advertised in the regular catalog
The X was a race only motor not available from regular dealers, limited quantity
There were differences in the porting between the 2 motors. The XS was advertised as 90 hp, but that may have been generous ... more likely correct for the X motors which may have been up to 105-110 hp
