I moved mine back to the second hole in the crankcase added a longer rod between the ball links trimed the outer cable so only an inch sticks through the ancore bracket and never had an issue with it in over 75 races or the hours of testing.Hooking it over and over agin becomes a snap.

You are correct George, the throttle can be modified to work properly. How many new drivers/crew chiefs are going to do this though? Why should someone buy a new race motor then have to modify it to make if work right? Especially on something so critically important as one's throttle!

I ran/set-up our Merc for 2 years with very little issues too.

We should have the option of using the second generation Merc throttle on the new Merc 15.

How many running the 25XS still use the first generation Merc throttle? Not many I bet, if anyone at all.

Again, Submit the throttle setup to the J Committee. If the concern of the cable crossing over the child's feet can be negated then I think the Committee will listen. You can post all day about this subject on this site and nothing will change unless it is brought to the J committee for consideration.

I could really care less what throttle cable is legal, who makes it, if there is more than one.....

What I have an issue with is people saying the current one binds up, sticks and is not safe...if it's not safe fix what you do have...

Maybe it has for some racers, BUT there is no one out there that has more heats in J & AX than the Allen's and we have never had one stick or bind up.
Maybe we are just lucky????

Maybe that was the kiss of death by saying that and now we will have problems ...who knows....Is it the idea set up? NO. But if your throttle is sticking or binding up it's like anything else take it apart, clean and lube it and make sure you have it aligned properly. Something is not right if you are having issues.

If I was a betting man....I bet a different one is not leagalized...I have been wrong before so we will have to see.

I'm not debating this issue only stating a fact that if it's sticking you have something wrong (which is easy to do) I swore many times putting three of them together.

I have never had one bind, I have heard of it though, what I find is they are very sensitive to a "perfect" set-up. The anchor point on the conduit is not a straight line to the anchor point for the inner wire, which doesn't always allow the throttle to completely close. Using a 3/16 screw to anchor the cable in the round block damages the conduit over time and is one place that causes binding. For the experienced racer/mechanic this isn't a problem, BUT it is for the new racer or those not so mechanically inclined it has and will cause frustration.

A properly working throttle is one of the most important parts on our boats and to have such a mediocre throttle is a joke and dangerous, especially since it's an entry level motor.

The current legal throttle is a bad design!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
