  • Jerk Rules!

As recent tech assistant inspector, I need to address this: This class of flats is NOT just for race boats! Any ski boat, drag boat, retired racer, are all welcome! What I observed is we have no ski class! Dont confuse the SK cubic inch class with ski!

DAng it, we used to have twice as many boats!

Dont make me explain the difference but I will for those newbies if you ask me. What I have discovered, we need to welcome more SLOW boats. We all had them 10 years ago and now they are GONE! Everyone wants to be a racer with roller EVERYTHING and 80+ speeds. This discourages folks with older, non race motor registration and has hurt boat count. By the way:
A second edition of rules adapted in 2005 allowed the family ski boat to enter with simpler rules but with these came a suggested speed limit similar to APBA endurance flat. Not the 80 class but a slower possible 70mph one. We used to have 8-12 that ran a 60mph average around the 3/4 mile. Those boats and potential racers are GONE! Most still have boats, but for one reason or another have returned to docile lake use and more FUN!

Has the fun died? ITs sure INVISIBLE to our family! A Couple of racers I dont need to name must lighten up! What happened? Dont blame this all on the economy, unless you can back your statement! 'Who is' actually out of work, or IS IT; they cant affort current competitive speeds??

This class will only grow with all racers encouraging new guys and gals to bring whatever they have. Most importantly stop the bickering within, it discourages even me to EVER return to the flags!!

YOU MUST ENCOURAGE TWICE AS MANY NEW RACERS THAN YOU LOSE! To save this class!
STOP THE DOOM AND GLOOM TALK ABOUT ONLY SIX BOATS, YOU STILL HAVE THE LARGEST FAMILY OF FLATS IN THE NORTHWEST!
Just maybe cubic inch classes will die because of numbers! That's OK with me. Back to our roots would be good! Growth and sustainability at EVERY RACE depends on everyone!

Thanks for allowing me to inspect at Banks, and I sincerely hope the next race sees more prepared happier racers! Father jerk will be there until the fighting or rain starts!

    Lastly

there are dozens of boats currently out there preparing to join us or still on the fence for lots of different reasons, please encourage instead of the reverse! Flats dont have reverse, and neither do I!

Ithink that the cube rules are bs you can spend just as mutch money on a 327 as 500 ". time in and run what you brung.

What is "timing in", I'm assuming that allows different ci motors to run in the same class, how does that work?

              Timing in

I'm not sure, but I think for timing in we all have to do a qualifying lap before the races on Saturday. Am I right on this, ole Jerk?
By the way, are the races still on for Fathers Day? Where are they being held?

                Proof

that my blabbing is for a good reason! Howdy Steve #17 Hallet. Is that right? Former Ione and Newport Champion in which ever heat he qualified in!

Tell them about the Nascar style qualifying at Ione 2005 or 6! We had 14-16 boats all running a 2 lap charge to determine which of 4classes they would race in Pardon my french but SCREW the cubic inch classifications, this was the best side by side action ever seen!

Steveo----Already Gone, your not kiddin, perhaps the most unbeatable boat in SK. Good to hear from you.

Timing in is how we used to start the weekend. First "heat" was spent in groups of three or four mixed boats getting a lap avarage each. Then depending on how many boats, we were broke down into groups.

One of the best times timing in was at Ione, we timed in as single boats and had flag start heats. I think it was quite a show as well.

The only problem with timing in was one boat seemed to have a problem keeping the same avarage qualifying as he did racing ( SandBagger ). So instead of dealing with the problem we changed the rules to ci classes. Now the problem is....... well.... There are a few.

I really liked that if a boat with a bone stock 454 showed but couldnt turn 65 on the straights would at least be paired with the slowest boats. True ski boat class.

Anyway Good to see you post Steve. Fathers day weekend in your state, Trout Creek. Im in and hope a couple others are. It would be great to run with you.

In Trout Creek Montana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where you been? Dont tell them what cubic inches you now have, let them guess!!! After you beat them! As it stands there is NO qualifying, you just go by the honor system and state how many cubes you have and they are happy to get another entry to actually have 3 per class!
By honor system I mean, they have NO way to check cubes or even know block casting numbers so you could be running against a 572 or 416+ sbc pushing 700 horse....couple that with a light hull and ski boats like yours and mine dont stand a chance of being in the same county much less winning squat! But the fast guys are happy and really need the ego sustaining win at the cost of boat count! That's how it appears anyway!

                      Did I exaggerate?

Timmie bringing the mustard!??? Beware of yellow beer bottle necks

ole jerk, not making friends with the wannabe World Champions but trying to keep Outlaws participation alive one boat at a time!

Picture of one of FOUR heats each timed in by computer by lap times, then separating them into groups of A,B,C,D with a safe number of boats that the course size could handle well. Best racing anywhere but that little Jones boat in the middle got beat cause he didnt have a down pedal (went airborn at the flag start) and felt it was unfair that a big block spanked him! This fella later became the leader when I retired and installed cubic inch classes! Truth be told, he placed well but the harsh Ione turn one was his defeat, NOT cubes! Jones are made for big NW course turns not one pin sharpies and he drove very well to put this boat in contention at every race! He now races safer Motorcycles!

Steve, you remember who finished 2nd behind you? I have a DVD of this race if anyone cares to view our fantastic bunch of inovators and incredible ski boat pilots! More stills over at Vintage Hydroplanes under Race EVENTS.......If some of you cube class supporters would have been there, we would NOT be having this conversation-arguement! Period!

                          Starting at Trout Creek

Good to hear back from both of you (Boyd and Ror). Any idea how the races will be started at Trout Creek? Sorry to hear your boat can't run this year Boyd. So Ror, is that Revenge boat going yet, or will you be running the old SS 27?
Any idea how many v-drives will be showing up? Boyd you usually have the best info on this?

Steveo will be a flag start as is customary for the flats with SLORA. Would love to have 10+ boats show up but I think Jerk was counting and it doesn't look like it.

Welcome to hydroracer, we hope you enjoy your visit.

Would like to add that at Trout Creek the area is big enought for any size course. It is larger than Moses so we won't have any one or two pin corners.

Let her rip and keep an eye on those GPS's!!
