Any idea how many v-drives will be showing up? Boyd you usually have the best info on this?

Ill be running the SS 27 boat. Still running it with a 402. I have most of the parts gathered for the Revenge but still have alot of work to do.

No idea how many boats will be there. Im thinking Doc, not sure if you have met him, will be there with his Sanger Circle Runner. I also hear the Webbers may be running. Other than that, who knows, may be a bit bleak but am glad to hear your comming.

About these GPS's. I don't own one, so can I run without one? Our Hallett does have a 80mph Gaffrig speedo. Will this do for Trout Creek? Our boat rarely gets to 80mph anyways.

Thanks for the offer for the gps. I'll probably take you up on it. Is it really a safe thing looking at a gps when you're going 80mph in traffic? I know I'm usually concentrating more on boat control than looking at my gauges. Just a thought since I've never used one.

My guess is you don't look at it, you just read it after the race, if anyone breaks out they are disqualified. Boyd would be the one to truly answer the question, or Dave Weber.

IF... we run a GPS class you can borrow one from them or I have a spare as well. No its not safe to look at it, as you know. Never having run a GPS class forgive me if wrong but it just gets strapped on you or the boat prior to the heat and reset, then after the heat, it gets checked by the official for the class and if you go over 80.?? you get DQed. Im not sure what this program will bring for classes, so the GPS would be the way to keep it on an even playing field for all. If we go with the CI rules, well you and I and Dave Webber would make a class, but what do we do with someone that doesnt fit but wants to run? A GPS may be the way to keep the field even. If this event has a program in place, cool, if not, I say we get together at the event and decide how the flats will run to put on the best show. I also like the time in and split the group by time in speeds. Alot depends on how many boats show. Just my .02.

A problem with GPS's is some inconsistancy. I have two, both will read the same MPH, but one takes about 4 seconds at top speed to register. With that said, I can blast to 85 and let off and It wont register 85 at all. I know I may be rolling on myself here but food for though. If I loan one out I will be using this one, if not I prefer the one that gives instant TS.

                    You guys are close

First of all Mike was wrong to assume a GPS class will be run!!!

Ror is right, if enough boats appear to fill classes, then cubic AOF classes are preferred by those IN supervisory control of the flats! Not me!

Last year we only had 6 boats at Moses and the majority wanted GPS which is what we would run at any National APBA event IF Nostalgia Endurance is run, otherwise we race 'Vintage Flat'. So there are 2 national classes that now allow our old boats! This Moses event allowed us to run 3 times a day instead of the usual 2 times daily and 4 total Sat and Sun. Because we had combined the SK and 468, actualy racing time was reduced but: each flat racer covered 6.25 miles daily in the 3 heats instead of the usual 5.5 miles for 2 heats.

Am I explaining this right? In other words we ran 2 extra heats for the whole weekend. We opened the show, ran around noon, and closed the program. THIS IS A BIG PLUS FOR THE SPECTATORS SINCE OUR ACTUAL WATER TIME INCREASED! Running that early caught racers unprepared since we are not used to racing until Noon but if you want spectators, there is no better way than to run 6 loud boats in a sleepy town at Breakfast! It also gave the program an earlier start since all most had to do was back their trailers in!

I guess this change happened when the hydro folks asked why we dont run as often as they did. Truth is, the Northwest Water Competition folks of the past didnt think water conditions after our heat would be safe for the next heat of hydros! Now with low boat count, a couple minutes of still time occurs anyway especially if the water is a river or there are soft natural shore lines to dissapate the wave action. So we run more, most love that.

What happens in Montana, I dont have a clue but I can tell you SLORA has been very receptive to what us flats want. More boats spell multiple classes and often the pit boss will ask you what YOU the racer wants to run in the event of not enough class entries.

Moses Lake was a blast and those present will tell you how close and exciting GPS racing actually is. This spells fun for all! Basically, you just lift your foot some at the 3/4 of the straight chutes. If you have a speedo, that will let you know a bunch, we dont! We depend on a Referee at the dock checking the device around our necks ( cant be watched by driver) before the flag and after the flag. If you are under 80.9, your placing stands, if you are over, NO DQ, you just fall behind the next legal boat. If all break out, the winner IS the winner and not disqualified! If the last place boat is the only legal 80, then the first finisher is second.

Steve, I would bet your boat handles the turns very well, and this is what wins GPS events while still keeping a save chute speed and TURN ENTRY SPEED! This is where we all have flipped in the past, IN THE TURNS! GPS is way safer in my opinion. No one wants to get wet!

The California guys initially installed GPS since they run on a much bigger courses as a way to equalize the fast hulls from the ski boats and give a spot for new guys or old guys to race safely! They increased the speed from 70 to 80 and it is still a hit and the largest of inboard classes today!

Hope I answered all your questions, now I have one! Are you please going to bring the Wickens!!!??? Love that boat and would like to see Sharon drive it!!!!!!! Another, where is Timmie? I am available to drive if he needs me
