  • Lucas Speedway Report

Their was a good turnout of boats and drivers. A shout out to Team Red, Fred H. Dave Mason, Steve Johnson & G69 team who made the long trek down to Lucas from up north. Nichols Racing from Dallas. Hope I did not forget anyone. Test day on friday the water was decent, sat. however the water conditions took a turn for the worse. 20 to 30 mile gusts straight down the course. We did get the race run with very trying conditions. Several drivers did make contact with rocks lining the banks, damaging their boats, no injurys. I don,t think any of the boats were damaged to bad. Richard Baze managed to climb a rooster tail in E Hyd. and get thrown out of his boat, and get wet. Overall drivers did a great job managing very trying conditions. The only results I know for sure were the the 2 classes we ran in Sat. E-Run. 1st Keith Kampen 2nd Kevin Mcaffee 3rd Jeff Ruth, D Run. 1st Alan Owens, Not sure of the rest of the running order'. Sun conditions were much better, but Fred H. still made cointact with the rocks in E Hydro doing some serious damage to his boat. Race was completed in short order, done at 4:00pm. E Run. Keith & Kevin split 1st & 2nds Alan Owens repeated in D Run. Over $ 5000.00 was paid out to the drivers after the race.
Lucas Oil productions did a lot of filming over the weekend. When we hear where it will be used at we will let you know. Track manager thought the race was great.
A big thanks to Ray Rodda his anouncing sure adds a lot of excitement to the program.

Jack you are right about the wind. This has been the weirdest weather I can remember in this part of the country. It was over 100 at last years race. This year you needed a jacket or sweatshirt Sun. morning. Like to froze to death at Alexandria race in May.

Team Red had a blast!!!!! very good race, well run, and lots of fun and great people!! Lucas Oil racing complex is awesome!!! Race course was tight, but fun!!!! The Sat night dirt track race was the best I have ever seen!!!!
we would come again for sure, it was great!!!

With a Lucas OIL putting so much into a kneel down boat race, there is no reason not to support this race in the future!!! If you don't support this you are only hurting kneel down racing by not coming!!!

            Lucas Oil

I would like to thank everyone who worked hard to put on the race. I think Linda Gilmore should have a big mention for all of her hard work, Ray did a great job announcing to make the races fun for everyone and I want to thank all of the rest of the volunteers that "made it happen". I want to thank the L4 crew for working day and night to get my boats ready. Winds were a constant problem but we did manage to be the only legal boat in the D Runabout race Saturday. For once I didn't jump the gun!

              Lucas Oil Speedway

Along with all of the girls that worked the judges stand we also need to thank our new ODA referee Jeff Lake. Very trying conditions on his first day of being a referee and he kept the program moving and did a very good job. He also worked with Kelly Kidwell on rebuilding the ODA clock and it turned out great!!!!

I think hats off to everyone for supporting the race and to the drivers for a professional safe performance. Saturdays race would have never been pulled off at any lake including Centralia, The Lucas facility is awesome, loved the car races and fireworks also. V-25

                  Racers Dream

Most boat racers have dreamed of having a special built body of water for boat racing. One where we can build a foundation at and grow the sport. In the last few years this dream has become reality. The relationship the NBRA has built with the Lucas Oil execs is strong. They understand us, and we understand them. You can't have better pits than what they provide. And with certain improvements on the horizon, this race will be the biggest, baddest race of anywhere in the U.S.. And we have Jeff Ruth to thank for his vision and efforts in building up the relationship with Lucas Oil. Jeff works hard at making this race the best it can be. We can't fight mother nature, but we can make it work. Everyone did a fantastic job at not crashing Saturday in that wind. We all used our heads where it was needed and the spectators got their show. I felt it was a pivitol moment for the NBRA. There were a lot of fans in the grandstands and in the beer garden. The meet and greet that Jeff set up was awesome, I know I lifted many small kids over the fence to sit in the boat and the fans were really responsive to the races. They loved the show. Last I heard Mr. Lucas was happy, he made some good money on the program.

So boat racers, keep this event on your watch list. If possible, please don't schedule races the same weekend. This race site has some serious potential. Everyone will be racing here in the future. I am sure Jeff will keep us posted on happenings.

We had great response from the track manager. all is good, the conditions that we had to run on Saturday were the most extreme that I have ever seen, But Only the great Drivers that showed up, and ran prevailed and some of the best races I have ever seen were put on, Many times throughout the day , The Ref Jeff Lake , Safty Director Richard Baze and myself, thought about and consulted about throwing in the towel. but with words of caution as the drivers left the pitts, all the drivers put on one Hell of a show, Lake Lucas is the Darlington of boat racing. and proof of this is the Lake Lucas Boat Bottom Treatment And Conditioner, as 4 of us found out how great it really works. My bottom is getting fixed rite now as well as Verns and Kevins, so we will all be ready for Mountian Home, One thing that was told to me as I came in and checked damage if ya hit the rocks its your own fault, This is true as I can attest, the left hand works both ways , I did have a great time 7 am till 11 pm of nothing but fast racing, boats and cars. and if that wasn't enough the Kart slick track was cool too.
Im gonna try for 2 there next year
