Not much to changing out an impeller Mike. Just spin the cone but off and it's right there. The merc tool works great, but I've had good luck using a pin spanner wrench also. Don't forget , it's a left hand thread..

If it were mine, I wouldn't mess around with it. Send it to someone who really knows what they're doing. I had bad experiences with those units, especially when I installed my own water pump impeller. Things can go seriously wrong.

Is David Steckbauer still doing service work? If he is, I wouldn't hesitate to send it to him.
(I'll dig around for his contact info later today)

          Gear Foot

          Hi Mike,
If you don't have the cone tool then don't mess with it. Also remember the thread is posit rotation. If you need it done I have Merc impellers and can do it for the cost of parts and shipping.

                    Merc tool

I have two new ones I will sell. Just have to make the pins. Cost would be $55.00 plus shipping.

                      Tool

It is easy to make one out of pipe, a socket and two holes drilled in the pipe a plate with the socket welded on one end you can use what you want to go though the holes in to the cone. I have used one for 40 years. Not as good as the merc. one but will work fine

                        Wrench

Danny- Your right I made 3 or 4 too very easy to make and they work very well. I gave one to a person on here a year or so ago free. I might have a couple left.

They are 1/4" diameter x 1-7/8" overall including a 5/16" diameter x 1/2" long knurled end grip section (not really needed).
