here is what the lake looks like. Hoydenpyle Dam is the name of the lake. Pits will be in a real nice state park. All the facilities will be available to us so it should be a nice site. Thank Todd for all his hard work.

Looks nice
Mikey, Looks nice. Is it one of the two lakes south of Eagle lake on the preserve? I always thought Battle Creek would be a good place to race, lots to do there, well a little less over the last few years. There was a kick A-- sports bar on the south side of the high way. Anyhow, got the sled tunes up?

Eagle lake would be the place most likley. The other two lakes would seriously lack pit space. Eagle lake is a mid sized lake. The Kzoo river also flows throught Ft Custer, but I doubt you could navigate it to race anything. We got a race in BC once a long long time ago right in downtown on the Kzoo River. We were going to hold Kilos or something because it so narrow a regular race could not be held. Not enough interest back then and it went away without happening.
There is lake on the military side of Ft Custer called Harts Lake. Perfect place to race. However, being in the active military section of the base it is highly unlikley a race could be held there. Before it was part of the militray base it was a popular campground for the public. Parts of the cabins still stand on the shores. It is however, land locked by the military, and if you get caught in there for any reason it is jail time.Dave Mason

Eagle Lake
Dave,
You are correct, Harts lake is on the reservation next to the airport, big enough to race on but no pit area. Eagle Lake is on the west side of the reservation and is part of the recreation preserve, the problem is there is a huge swim beach there, also a concession stand, it is the perfect race site, camping, gradual beach, ramp, the day I was there it was blowing 25 mph, only a slight chop, it sits in a hole and is surrounded by trees. It is Dayton refined, the perfect place for a Nationals. There also are two smaller lakes south of it on the preserve but they do not have the pit area needed, I just wondered if someone was working on Eagle Lake, I think with the right contact in the DNR and the right time of the year it is a potential race site. Those are the only lakes in the imediate area so it has to be one of them.

Outstanding
Dean, you give me the million I need for the marina and I will buy a boat. I'm glad you guy's got into Eagle Lake, I had just started on it in 95 and figured I was going to have to go above the area managers head, he was not going to let anything on the beach but people. This race site is Dayton Hydro Globe times 10, for the first few years flying around Battle Creak it was and still is a no fly zone, we would get close at night under goggles so I could see what was there, once I actualy went there and looked at it I was convinced it was the perfect place to hold a nationals. Everything is there you need except a hotel, and there are plenty near by. I am telling the truth about blow out proof, the day I ventured over there from Grass Lake it was blowing 25 knots plus, from the air I could not get a perspective on how it sat down in a bowl so the wind did not get down to the lake, 360 degrees protected, the wind was blowing from the worse possible direction for where the race course would be and there was only a slight chop. The only other place I had been where there was that kind of wind and no waves was the first year they held Hillsdale, the only reason they called the races was the hydros could not take that much wind, you had to crank in two hand fulls of crab to get your boat to go straight.
I will make an effort to get to some races this year Dean, promise. Keep up the good work.

Todd - This could be the Top'O mini me race.
Seriously - Great site. This lake is huge! But protected as well. Thanks for all your hard work. What a great way to start the summer off. A closed course AND a marathon race.Attached FilesLast edited by Tomtall; 12-10-2007, 02:45 PM.Tom L.
