  • New marathon races?

I heard that there will be 2 new marathon races put on by the MHRA club next summer in Battle Creek and Mesick MI. If so, will they be "short course" marathons or will they be run through rivers/lakes like the Top O? When will these races be run (or is it too early to tell) and (for my sister and her driver) will the SLTs run or is it only stocks? Will there be short course racing at the same venue? Thanks for any info anyone can offer.

    marathons

At the TORC [Toronto o/b] end of year meeting a few weeks back there was a discussion of changing the format for runabouts from heat racing to marathon at future races, ie; Waterford, ON[June '08] , reason being less than 12 runabouts in total show up there, and seldom more than 3-4 in each class.
Suggestion was to run all runabouts at once, a beach start, with maybe time delays for classes. One question was, will a 302 run for 20 minutes on a standard tank of gas
If a few of you MI marathon guys came over, you could show us how its done.

Brian...If the Soo race were resurrected I'd be there in a heartbeat. I don't think my 302 would last for 20 min on the standard tank.

        302 answer

A 102 or 302 will not make it on the tank or extended tank for 20 min. You would need to put a fuel pump on it or run electric. You run a line to a modified cap and then there is a return line for the overflow to run back to the extra tank in the boat, once the boat tank runs dry, what is left just gravity feeds to the motor as normal.

          MHRA and marathon/SLT racing

Sorry for the delay in response. Job and Holidays are keeping me hopping.

MHRA is tentatively adding two races to its schedule. Mesic, MI and Fort Custer, MI. Mesic which would be the weekend before Constantine and Fort Custer the weekend after? Tentatively we will run timed, modified short course marathons, and the SLT and SLT marathon. Additionally, we will investigate the interest to adding SLT to Grass Lake, MI. All information is tentative at this point and will be finalized at our spring meeting and banquet. I can confirm that MHRA is interested in further embracing both Marathon racing and the SLT program. We will contact SLT representatives to investigate their interest in adding these three events to the MI racing schedule.

          Thanks,

              Kerry,

It will be in the Fort Custer State Recreation Area, but as Dean stated is still tentative.

Thanks for the info Dean. Will you be running short course racing as well? (I realize this is all tentative)

                    Yes on the short course

Yes we will of course run short course as well.

Everything is tenative, however, we are in the palnning and approval phase.

                    Thanks,
                    Dean

                      Josh DSR

                      Ok Josh,

Gootz says he is in for all three races with DSR block off those weekends now. No rugby two weeks prior. Let's find two more DSR for these races. Between the short courses and the marathons next year you could race DSR more in those three weeks than you have in the last three years!

DSR making a Michigan comeback? I have heard some rumours about a few people reviving this class.....

See ya at the Casino Mikey! Got the new pipes too... and so did dad. If we can't beat em, we'll just blow em outta the (frozen) water.

                            maybe

I'll wait to learn more about what these races have to offer before I commit.

Josh, I wonder how many besides myself know what S.A.W. stands for?

BTW, Custer was a punk, he had it coming.

                              Eagle Lake ?

I am very familiar with Fort Custer, there are no lakes on the reservation that you could race on, Eagle lake is right next door and has three lakes you could use, I looked at Eagle lake in 95 but the conservation officer could not get over trailers on the beach, any way just currious.
