    Steve has nice WOOD!

Let's see what others have on the jigs or getting finished up. I've got to think that there must be more than these few happening.

                Low angle planes

                Darren,

Get on e-bay and search "low angle plane." You can get then new, but unless you pay some serious cash to one of the specialty woodworking stores you simply can't beat the old ones for cheap! I've got an extremely old Stanley that works great. It is earlier than the 60 1/2 model, but still a 12 degree or so blade. They cut end grain and therefore work like magic on plywood. Keep a stone handy and keep dressing the blade and you will be amazed at how nicely they cut.

                Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Stanley-60-1-2-A...QQcmdZViewItem

New Stanley Low Angle Wood Plane

There is a new Stanley on ebay. I have been using a Stanley low angle wood plane for about 30 years. They are the best!

                  Here is another example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

Carl Staron and the AOF Highlands Club may be on to something positive with their Minimost with the Briggs and Stratton motor idea. The idea is a desk jockey like me could build a Minimost boat and buy a motor and get a kid on the lake with in a week of seeing a race for under $1,000.

I have no wood working skills, but thought their idea was neat and figured I would give it a try. For under $200 invested so far I bought wood at Lowes, tools at Harbor Freight, paint from Tractor Supply. The wood is nothing special, just exterior plywood and white board. I wanted to keep the costs low knowing I may have a lot of wasted wood and reworks being that it is my first try at a major wood working project. I also want to see how low I can keep the costs and buy the material at Lowes or Home Depot.

I am a little further along than these photos. In four nights I am to the point where I am ready for the decks. The decks have me at a halt for some thinking on how to get the front/bow seam together properly. I am close to having the boat on the water. My goal was to have the boat ready for Lake Placid this weekend, but it was a bit too far reaching for me and I did not want to rush and make mistakes.

I'm looking for a driver for my Minimost for the December Lake Placid, FL race. Any takers? I may give the boat hull away or donate it to the Highlands Club when finished - if it floats that is ...

                        A very high dollar plane
I have several Stanley 60 1/2. I like the older ones as they lighter. I still have the one a bought when I worked for the DeSilva Bros back in 1958. They are on E-Bay all the time for about $45.

The web site I posted was to show the style of plane Steve was refering to. I know there are many good sources for inexpensive used planes out there.

Not New But Returning With A Rookie

These boats are not new but will be returning to racing. These are recycled boats from current racers, coming back for my rookie season in 2008. They were previously raced by:

                              Rick Wagner (as 16-S)
                              Mike Thierfelder (as 41-P)

Rick's former boat has new paint. Mike's former boat has the same paint, and is awaiting it's new 1-K numbers.
