Darrell,
Believe me when I tell you, I understand you passion about the Hot Rod. I share much of your conviction and respect the fact that you are out actively recruiting for your class, frankly we need more people recruiting.
You had to know that there was a but. But I still believe the answer for the long run is to focus our efforts on researching new motors. No manufacture will ever produce a small engine that will compare to the speed and the ride of the Hot Rod, I don't think you will find anyone to disagree with that point.
The 25SSR program that has displayed itself the last few years should be evidence that if there is a motor in production we will gain more participation. I know that many of the 25 drivers came from existing C Stock drivers with motors, but the same may be said for the Hot Rod drivers added to the class were B drivers who had many of the parts required and boats required.
I am not suggesting that we have another class with a restricted 102 or 302, what I think it is time to do is consoildate classes like AMR and BSR into a mod class and make room for a B Stock motor that we know will not compete with the exsitng Hot Rod but will compete with all of the new equipment that a fresh motor will bring like the Tohatsu / Nissan or maybe even a four stroke ( which I am not a fan of). I mention the Tohatsu because it di prove to be a pretty good ride.
The point of all of this; is sometimes we need to make the difficult decision to give up a little ground on a personal front to better the sport for the whole of the racing community and keep racing
around for our kids. We debate and lobby our points to the best of our ability then when we all vote, we should all get behind the result of the voice of the majority to try and keep things moving forward.
The Hot Rod may still be the answer, but you know better than anyone that no one is going to make a living or maybe not even a profit making Hot Rod motors and or parts to spur the growth we need for the future. Dean may have an idea that has merrit by liscensing the motor through APBA, but we will still need a generous donation of time, effort and more importantly MONEY.
