How to promote the sport of Stock Mod & Pro racing

I have a question about promotion...
What does it take to get Propeller Magazine on the newstand? It would seem most of the hard work is done in producing the magazine. Maybe all that is needed is to find a distributor interested? Maybe just a regional distributor at first? In a state where racing has a big following.
I see many small market and even region magazines around. I think there would distributors interested in this size of market.
And this would benifit all boat racing.Fralick Racing

Andrew,
I don’t know what it would take.
But I believe they tried that some years ago and it did not sell very well. Does not mean we can’t try it again. It would have to be produced differently, not knocking it because it’s fine for what we currently publish it for but the print/paper quality is poorer now to try and save money.
If I remember correctly APBA was told that the reason it did not sell was because no one knows who we are. Kind of a catch 22…
But I for one think we need to do something it’s just trying to figure out what it is, so we are getting the biggest bang for our buck and touching the right market."Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"

You just had your first marketing lesson and don't know it.
Believe it or not Promotion,Advertizing otherwise known as Marketing
is way more difficult to achieve than producing product..Most blue collar people think whats the big deal how hard can it be make it someone will buy it. Son it's real hard,,sure physical labor takes strength and so on. have done both and Marketing is much more difficult to achieve. One of the main reasons it's so difficult is there is very little instant gradification and much
rejection and human's hate rejection.
Friend at IBM once said sales hates prodiction and production hates sales
but to survive they need each other.

Seems to me Japan has done it very well for their sport. Of course they have huge stadiums and bet on them like horses and make millions of dollars (yen) a year at it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, something else besides cars they have kicked our butts at as well.

Here in the US we have become a society of moaners, whiners and complainers, we get so caught up in making sure that everything we say and do is so politically correct. While we spend trillions of dollars on policy and rules to govern over us the rest of the world just looks at us and laughs. In my opinion we have reached a point in the US where it is basically impossible to get anything done. EPA this Government that... lawsuit after lawsuit etc.. I guess you get my drift.HTML Code:

Same for Illegal's, Unions want you to believe it's the lower wages that causes issues. I submit it is not wages but entitlements. We have lost respect throughout the world and I wonder if we will ever get it back.

I like going thru Tims older articles. Some great stuff and very forward thinking.
From what I have seen and heard being discussed amoung many of our current deligation in the APBA ranks the changes are comming. I do believe the steering committee is a start as well as condensing classes. I also believe we are on the eve of some very positive changes. Change takes time, with the support of all of those sitting on the sidelines it can come much faster and easier.
Here is another article of Tims I liked also -------Attached FilesTom L.

I remember when I wrote both of those articles. Got a lot of mail with strong disagreement about cutting the number of classes. Then in 1982 Kay Harrison and I dreamed up the U.S. Title Series. At that time most Pro races ran A, B, C, D, F, RB, and C-Service usually both Runabouts and Hydros. We chopped it by over half. I would say it went from strong disagreement to hate-mail, but I think it saved the Pro Division.
I personally got burned out on boat racing in '91 and quit. I didn't even go to any races, it was just a thing in my past. Then two years ago through Hydroracer and other sites I reconnected with Gene East and went to a race.
There is no Alcohol Anonymous for methanol. I ran at the Pro Nationals this past July and now have a new Krier Runabout on order and two Mike Schmidt 250cc Kawasaki's. I don't know where that young feisty kid with all the ideas went because I think I will be happy just to go race with the USTS.
I think I still will cringe every time I hear someone with "new ideas" that qualifies it with - BUT NOT MY CLASS.
