    Power

No matter what you get, make sure you overpower it a bit. I have manned TRORA's, IOA'S (Same as TRORA setup) and several other regions. They are all under powered when loaded down. You get a injured driver in there along with rescue driver, and EMT you need to plane it off slightly and go like hell. I found the pontoons when planed off are tricky to drive.

No matter what you guys do, I firlmy believe the hinged front is the answer. Wet feet are a small price to pay for injuries making it to shore in time for possible life saving medical help. In the Pontoons I have been in, you can rest your feet on the other side seat to keep them dry. Also, the radio holders mounted make a big difference, or at least a loop to hang it around your neck.

I know the IOA's was hand built from pontoons, and I am sure TRORA's was as well.

      Rescue Boat

The USTS boat that Dan M shows in his post was put into service in 1989 and was built by Dan and Tom Kirts in Indianna. They also built the trailer that hauls the boat as well as the buoys, the clock and a few other items. We were very fortunate to have that much talent in the club.
Tom and Dan could answer any questions and I am sure there are idea's that could be an improvement for a new boat. Fred Mason ( our rescue boat driver extraordinaire) could answere questions about operation and moters.

Here is the rig Carl referred to. As Dave noted, power was factored in, and it is not under powered (and since it's maiden voyage in the top photo, it runs in much better trim!). Note that it does not have a winchable ramp - there is a notch in the side of the bow for one stretcher, and another in the front of the bow for a second - it will haul two stretchers. The all-aluminum rig was custom built by a Magnum Boats in Vancouver, WA.

I have seen it and it is the best Resue boat that I have seen. Problem is the $18,000 cost.
Region 11 is planing on a new Rescue boat also and we are working to raise the funds. Brain Small Region 1 Region Chair uses the Carolina Skiffs. They have a web site. Also check out www.rescueone.

I've seen Rescueone boats in action.

Wilson, NC last year. The locals had a pair of Rescueone boats on a stack trailer. One of them didn't run ??? Anyway, they were nice rigs. I contacted Rescueone and they sent me a price - Yeep! Fell outta my chair gasping for air!

BSOA/MRC has the Kirts Kraft pontoons. Wouldn't trade them for anything! Unfortunately, I don't believe that they are manufactured anymore.
