  • Rescue Boats?

Anyone one have some pics of club rescue boats? I've seen some great ones over the years with lowering ramps to slide injured people in and some with winches to lift drivers up.

curious about sizes and types of boats. Size of motors. and how you get the injured driver on the boat.

I was curious what other clubs are using. We use a winch... but was curious about the ones with ramps... how it works. An other ideas.

TRORA has a small pontoon (I think it was built by Kirps) that has a ramp in the front that the injured driver is pulled up. It has held up great over the years and is very easy to use. When we first got it, we had training for club members and a 125lb (maybe less) female A driver "rescued" a 200+ lbs CSR driver without any outside help. She jumped in, grabbed ahold of his jacket, moved him in front of the ramp and then slid him right up. Of course today, we have water rescue trained EMT's that do all the jumping and hauling for us.

Don't have any pics of it but maybe someone else will see it and post.

    Hope that helps.

Brian is right about TRORA's rescue boat, it works great. I've been on quite a few rescue boats and really only like the one we use. Keep in mind I have not been on all of them while doing my rescue boat duty. The club is looking into purchasing a new or newer 50HP engine which will really put the rig where it needs to be. I'd suggest a power plant of this size, but obviously it also depends on the size of the boat. Lastly, if you decide on a pontoon boat like TRORA's get yourself a newer one with square pontoons, supposedly they plane off quicker.

          Andrew,

Here's a pic of the Title Series safety boat. It has a ramp that lowers in the front. It is basically a pontoon type boat with a bottom that joins the pontoons for the rear 3/4's. The ramp is hinged all the way across the bottom and is lowered by a winch. The bottom is open at the rear so that water can run out the back. When the ramp is lowered, a basket or backboard can be slid in easily. When the ramp is up it acts like the bow of the boat. Has worked great for many years.

So with these hinged ramp boats... can you leave stuff in the bottom of the boat? Radios, flags, coolers, food etc...?

Are peoples feet wet all day?

Radios... I was thinking like if one got dropped or bumped off a seat... our pontoon boat is high and dry and carpeted. So just trying to picture how much water comes through.

                  Andrew,

In my opinion the region 4 Inboard rescue team is one of the best in the country. I have seen these guys in action and you would be hard pressed to find a better more qualified rescue team any where in the country.

Thanks Dan... it looks nice. Wonder what keeps it afloat when the front drops? Have to ask them some questions.

andrew, jack clark(scotts father in region 2) has a boat just like region 4's boat, not a whole lot of water comes in it. Really nice set up.

Joe, you mean he owns the rescue boat for region 2? Or a person can just buy one with this flip down front anywhere? Their not home modified?

                          hinged ramp boats

Is region 3 moving in the direction of the hinged ramp boats? It looks like a good way to go.

Trust me the coolest and best rescue boat Ive ever seen is owned by Oregon Race Rescue; Steve and Lisa Erb in Oregon. They had it custom made 3 years ago just for Us racers.
We are so blessed to have them at our Region 10 races. They are great people who really have their stuff together as far as rescue goes ( Steve's a fireman) I don't think they look at this site but if any one has their e-mail ask them to send a pic so you racers can see what you can expect at the 2007 Stock Nationals

                              Andrew,
The way our is set up, 95% of the water never touches you feet. Only on rare occasions like when you try to take off with the ramp down (like when 6 young kids take it out for a joy ride back when they were much younger - I should note that this never really happened, honest ) . As for radios, we have little plastic holders mounted in the boat for the radios but I am sure they have found their way to the bottom of the boat once or twice with no harm done.

As Joe mentioned, our boat has been perfect for us for almost 15 years and is still in mint condition. We are looking to get a little more zip on it, but other than that, it is still nearly perfect for what we need. I also agree that if we were to have a new one built, we would go with the square pontoons as they jump on plane and are alittle more stable.

The whole rig is in storage right now, so no way to get pics but if you come to Franklin in the spring, we will give you the nickle tour.
