I remember watching Matt dagastino make the yamatos look sick in c stock hydro back around 1988-89 at a race in grass lake with a 50 year old 30H.It was a full field and he had the only merc and he had the whole field by half a straitaway. That 30h would rock.Ah the good old days.Bob

Dave, You mean intake port covers, right? Older, slower blocks had 4 individual covers. Newer, better breathing blocks have 2 individual covers.
Burninvernin, You need Harry Brinkman's book: How to modify your Mercury Outboard. Lots of good stuff in there.
Funny, C mod is a class that has more than one legal engine manufacterer. Some folks don't think there should be more than one type of engine in each STOCK class. Some folks ( I'm thinking of one person in particular) feel so strongly about this that they boycott a particular Stock class. Then they turn around and race a MOD class that DOES allow different type engines.
I just don't get it. If it will work for MOD, why not STOCK?

I guess its because the MOD division lets the drivers vote on engines and rule changes. The D stock racers were never balloted if they wanted an additional engine in their class when "new" Mercury ones were available. But the wonderful SORC disregarded their wishes and jumped up and down and bowed facing out west and accepted the Tohatsu with only the scantest testing done out there.
I think the D guys also remember the thanks the C Merc drivers got when they voted to allow the 102 Yamato into their class. The Yamato movement took about 4 years to gain enough members and then they voted the Mercury out. (Its so wonderful to see the same considerate 102 guys not giving the 302 any additional modifications so the currently available engine can be competitive so they stay at the top of the heap. Maybe the D guys are trying to look out for their investments.
