    Back to the original subject...

"Then...those of us that want to run both classes do not have to go thru a restrictor change between hydro and runabout."

Is it really that hard? The J to AXS guys do it as well.

      Hi Dean,
Just a couple questions to clear my normal state of confusion .

Is the current motor your running a pre-production prototype of the new, more reliable, low maintanance motor?

One reason I ask is, I have the AOF/NBRA B-MOD national champ 20 Hot-Rod motor avail to me from a former AOF/NBRA Racer in Oklahoma. He has held me off buying it cause of reliability/longivity concerns. I am not familure with the old design motor. But, he has the parts to put it back to stock form if I do decide to take it. (I have the old OMC mag off of it that I'm going to adapt to my 22 OMC.)
He has lent it out the last couple years to another AOF/NBRA driver and it sweeps the AOF (or NBRA) B-MOD Nationals. Then it goes back to the builder for inspection/overhaul before he gets it back home to sit till the next Nationals. I don't have the funds/connections to maintain it or the ability/special tools to do it myself. (My current 22 OMC motors that I run in 25MOD and now closed-up A-MOD, take me 4-5 hours to put rings in and check the bearings every other season.)
I am interested in it (the old 20) mainly to challenge Roberson for "Top-Gun" brag'n rights at near-by Canadohta Lake, and to run B-Canadian at Waterford, Ont. There was a 20 Hot-Rod there 3-4 years ago (Kargus?) that left everyone 3/4-1 lap back (including me and my 20H conversion on your former B-Webster).

Roberson ran his "OLD" 20 a couple years ago on Canadohta Lake, Pa. on Dana's (former) B-Zorkin and claims to have seen 70+. I don't Know if Jimmy was using a Keller speedo or GPS. My GPS reads 3-4 mph slower than my Keller so I assume that would put him in the 68mph area if using the Keller. If he was using GPS then--WOW! But, that is also the "OLD" motor.

Visited Fred Bieger (100N) in Dunkirk, Ny. today (01/27/06) to pick up a couple 44/D "fish'n" motors he found me. He has an old 20 (Looks like chrome plated sitting in his living room) that (son) Bill ran. He offered to put it on my Altralite to run at Franklin. He may even bring his 87 year old butt down to watch.

But If we're just drag'n/round'n up a hand-full of the "top-gun" old 20 motors (That only a few of the "Old-School" know how to make run/maintain) to run in the 25ssh/r class, how does that promote the new "stock" motor? ....(Are we restructuring entire classes based on this...?)

Will the average new racer be able to fallow in your foot steps with the new motor in this class?

Or- will it be a milder, more reliable/detuned and owner servicable/rebuildable version, that would be competative with/closer to the current 15CI B motor and help resurrect the current B class? I thought this was the motor I looked at at Ocoee?

Or, I'm I just another "mushroom" that is new to the sport, trying to UNDERSTAND what-the-heck is going on, sitting in the dark, and hoping to pick-up a few scraps of DUNG from the "TOP-GUNS" that I will never have a chance of competeing with, in another ---"STOCK"(?) ---class?

I'm interested in, and look FORWARD to, the introduction of the NEW H/R motor, just confused as to were it is going to/intended to --LAND.

If/when I purchase one, it will be with the intent of eventually aquiring the "J" and "A" conversions for it so if my Step-Grandaughter takes interest, I can put her in a ride that has a -chance-of being in the HUNT as she grows with the sport....

My days of "driving" are coming to an end soon. My Knees are about shot. Joel Weigle may be doing more driving in my rigs.
My favorite MOD classes with open pipes are as Harry Brinkman said are "Going the way of the Dinasour".
I was hoping to bring the stock 22 Merc and OMC reed-valve motors into B to help that class and to continue running inexpensive, easy to find powerheads that I and many old racers understand, but that idea seems to be mute.......

I came into this sport with a promiss to myself that If it's not FUN anymore I would get out... I banged my head against the wall for 11 years trying to keep Street Stock an AFFORDABLE FUN class at the local dirt tracks. Now you need $10-20K just to be competative for a .........TROPHY

      HECK,.... I'm buying a round now........what'l y'all have?...............

      End of shop talk.....

Has your Son got a ride with ya yet?
My step-Granddaughter Cassidy will be six in March and hope to have her out testing with me this year .

Tell Ron I said hello. Beth and I will be in Florida next month to visit Walt and Marria Long in Tampa for a day, (Would like to see Ron's collection if he has time) then on down to the keys. May stop and pick-up some oranges from Carl Staron for Morris.

      Thanks Dean,

        I found the 2000 proposal. May 2001 Propeller-page 10.;
        Stock Outboard #1; Approved 8 to 5

        Rule 7. 1. ADD Hot Rod B (20 c.i.) (1991 motor specifications) and Mercury boat/height rules as a legal 25SSr motor.
Reason: This motor has been requested by some drivers as a way of expanding interest in the 25SSR class. The motor has been approved per Stock Outboard Rule 6 by the Commission: however, the SORC felt the active drivers should vote on its inclusion in the class.
The above is effective immediately for the 2001 racing season.

Could someone explain to me how this proposal above differed from the one below so I know how to do it properly next year.......I'll study "Stock Outboard Rule 6" when I get home. Maybe it holds the info I'm missing...

ADD Mercury and OMC 22CI (the former old 25ssh/r class motors>1974 specifications/rules) as a legal motor in B-stock classes?
Reason: almost the same as above ?

Did the proposal for the old (20 CI) Hot-Rod 1991 specs, run the gontlet of testing/Prototype for the 25 class?

        Thanks/respectfully,
        19P --Steve French
