Today we got a tour of the race course by the Ecuador Marines in a 22´ patrol boat. Kevlar armor, machine gun mounts but no guns. 2 150 hp Yahama outboards. 32 mph. No one in Ecuador was sure of the length of the course, they said 80 miles because that is the distance by road. My GPS registured 63 miles. River is still at flood stage, but down a little from 2 days ago. Lot stuff coming down the river. (check pictures) Numerous low power lines, took out one with the patrol boat. Race boats will be ok as long as you don´t run down the center of the river. Check out pictures!!!

Have to move to a different pc at the Vinces cyber cafe

Thursday. We have our boats running satisfactory. Our main goal is to make sure we finish the 63 mile race. Most of the boats are named after the drivers wifes. Bob Williams is racing Roger Moscoso´s boat ¨Monica¨. My boat didn´t have a name so it is now named ¨Linda¨. The Angie Maria¨ boat is their Standard class motor is a 31 cu. in. OMC. it was running almost as fast as the boat I am racing.
In Vinces all the boat racers are heros, everyone wants to be a boat racer. But very few can afford to.
Today is an öff¨day, some shopping or going to the beach. Saturday there is a race party in Vinces.

The wood on that window frame looks very different. Do you know what type of wood it is?

There were about 30 entries in the race. Bob and I were not able to finish. My problem was durty fuel and a broken dash board. Bob hit something in the water and bent his prop.
                              1st. Cesar Patino Mercury
                              2nd. Gorey Tenorio Mercury
                              3rd. Tobyas Montece Yamato

Vinces was jamed packed with spectators. One HUGE party after the race.

That's a bummer you guys didn't get to finish. It must have been a great experience though. Looks like they had quite a crowd there. Wish you a safe travel home.
