    How about McMaster-Carr's 1080 Spring Steel Wire? We use PN 8907K18 - comes in 1 foot lengths. Yes, it is only 3/16" diameter, but it works well with my 5mm props and prop shafts in D Mod. It is 261,000 psi tensile strength!

    Take a look here. There are rivets, shears, bolts. Great place. Run on Tohatsu, strong.

    We make ours from this hardened stainless rod and have had great luck with it. McMaster Carr 3821T101. It is $23 for a 3' length.....
