    Thanks for posting the truth....
I got the feeling Fu-Lynn was trolling for some blame to lay at the doorstep of APBA.
APBA doesn't make rules, it enforces the rules that elected members make.

      A reasonable request

Combine bsr and amr. Keep them rollup only. It will open the door for more engines and boat count in the class.
I must disclose I am working on a amr as we speak. Not worried about winning. Just want to have fun learn and have enough boats to race.

Can you imagine this class powered by a readily available, lightweight, modern technology, LOOP charged, box stock, electric start engine with parts available any day of the week at the click of a button. I can. Talk about a drivers class that would draw spectators, fellow drivers and hopeful new drivers to the shore! We've been going in the wrong direction for decades folks.

Ok, I'm not venting or angry here, but would like some feedback...

"modern technology" = 4-stoke engines... That alone seems to be a "non-starter" in APBA.

          Loop charged = 2-stroke

Parts available any day of the week = Domestic Manufacturer

Those parameters narrow it down to Mercury Marine or Johnnson/Evinrude, which is now BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products).

Compared to the 1960's/70's/80's when domestic was the only game in town, it is WAY easier to locate and purchase engines and parts today for the domestic outboards. If "Stock" meant "Stock" then 9.9hp thru 45hp Mercury & BRP outboard engines would still be the dominant products for J/A/B/C/D classes outboard racing and the engines would "look like fishing engines" like they did in the past.

Today, there is no one fishing small lakes with outboards that resemble Yamato, HotRod, or Sidewinder outboard engines, so calling them "Stock" does not make sense to me. I personally have never seen any of these engines with a tiller handle for steering.

I have a steady turnaround of 25hp Mercury fishing engines thru my home-based business that could just as easily be converted to 25XS racing engines... Could a Yamato 302 gearcase be adapted to the 25hp Mercury short shaft fishing engine just like the HotRod gearcase is adapted to the Mercury J/A/AX and be run in a truly bone stock "fishing engine" class?

Maybe it doesn't have to be born as an outboard. Think about a Yamaha KT100 powerhead on any tower and a 2 inch boot. The KT100 has a lot going for it: $750 on ebay today, 21 lb, 16 hp with a 3 hole can exhaust and 24+ with a chamber, thousands around so parts and expertise are easily available, air cooled single cylinder so simple to use, reliable, simple adapter plate ( no water, no exhaust ). Lots to like here.

I will have to agree that a true 20 cubic inch Hot rod on a 10 foot runabout was one of the best things that ever was. even better than the 20H merc.
I also know that the side fin was introduced to try and help me beat a young kid that drove the 24P. He could drive with all the youth and vigor of any guy I ever seen race.

Absolutely loved watching Dave in a runabout. Just a fantastic driver.

As always, some guys believe "Stock" means a class of identical engines, with no modifications by the owners, where other guys think "Stock" should also mean a currently mass-produced engine that can be bought from a local marina.

It also seems that the first group suspects that outboard racing will always be a small in-crowd activity, where the second group thinks that with readily-available new engines, a lot of new people could be attracted to what they feel would be a more relevant sport.

This particular disparity of views must be a good forty-five years old by this point, LOL . . .

So....why don't we pull the restrictor plate in BSR on the SW. This will kill the remaining HR owners, but it makes 250MR very viable. All races in the country run Stock and Mod except MHRA. Additionally the MOD SORC produced Hot Rod pipes for sale to make the conversion simple and easy. In the hydro make the 20SW the dominant motor in 25SSH, that class is just sitting there on the books with no one racing it. Restrict the Mercs to the point of close parity and kick them out altogether in a few years. This would clean up a lot of issues and upset about 10 people. It would be a step in the right direction.

Not to totally derail this thread. I believe we have someone in 25SSH testing this summer to come back to the SORC with real test data on how much we need to slow the 25 Mercury's down, and how to do it, so we can have actual data and not guess.

Good to see you typing today. Glad your ok, probably sore though.

Very sore - but fine. Thank you for asking and for the help Sun.

I should of known you were already on it I think that SW should be able to go 69MPH with great punch and the Merc with a restrictor 72 with terrible punch. Lower the motor another 1/4 and it should be in the ball park. I raced a 20CI Hot Rod for two years in 25SSH and could beat all the rigs in 25 except Z and Dells. I took second at the Nats in it and a 2nd at Winter Nats. I would of kept doing it, except they let the hydro pull the restrictor. Never really understood that - I think it was supposed to grow the class.

Dylan nailed it, the most fun you will ever have in a runabout once you learn how to drive it.

As a long time BSR driver starting with the Mercury, then to the Hot Rod and hopefully soon a sidewinder It is most definitely the most fun class.
It needs to stay a roll up boat. My son just loves it. He drove a side fin (25ssr)at Franklin and said it was not a runabout. He also caught me on his go pro
getting ready to roll it up in the turns. James looks forward to the challenge to beat those skilled drivers.

The sidewinder is a piece of sh$$!!! That was forced down are throats! They flat out lied at the national meetings. It breaks, runs extremely inconsistent and is worse running then any Hot Rod ever. They spent almost a million dollars to make the H-R look great!! I will Thank them for that.

The only ones that run good are personal friends and they don't even finish every heat!

So how many cranks have the broken in the new sidewinders this year alone??

Takes a lot of balls to sell your friends a defective poorly engineered engine and then make them pay for the upgrades when it does not run correctly and break.

Lie to SORC about being engines available and parts for sale. Take peoples money for over a year and not send them a engine.

All you that defend them, you all need to wake up. The sidewinder destroyed A-B classes in stock outboard and the majority of the SORC clapped while they let them do it!!

Here we go. I'm not one to get involved in politics here on hydro racer but that last post forced me to remember my user name and password just so I can jump in on this thread.

The sidewinder is far from a piece of sh*t. In the last 3 years or so of running the A sidewinder I have not had 1 hiccup between the 2 A motors we use in asr and ash. The sidewinder has done nothing but actually help grow the classes that they are eligible to race in. The competition is so strong in these particular classes now souly because of the sidewinder. Just this past weekend in Constantine, if I didn't get the start I ran 3rd-4th behind a pack of sidewinders in both ash and asr, with no extra top end to pass anyone. Collin smiths ash is smoking fast, Peter Laurs asr is smoking fast, jay fox has a smoking fast ash AND asr, the hearns have fast A rigs, Dixon up in Canada has a stupid fast ash, Abby pond has a stupid fast ash...the list goes on. And I'm only talking about the A category meanwhile the guys that race B all run sidewinders and guess what? There are all fast. Sidewinder has helped improve this sport. The ones that don't like it either don't want to spend 5000 dollars on a motor, or they can't dial in a decent air fuel ratio meaning they are playing around with the jetting and just not doing it right to the point their Motor runs like a dog and they blame sidewinder for the mistakes that they bring upon themselves.

                              Darrell,
You are not even close to the truth. From a personal (not SORC) standpoint we purchased an A Sidewinder several years ago. The motor ran flawlessly. With 60+ heats of racing any many many weekends of testing the crank did break, I don't remember any of my HR engines lasting that long and we had a few. We love the SW motor and it has kept my father in racing, he would have stopped if he had to keep running the OMC.

As for taking money, I know for a fact that they do not take deposits or payments on motors until they are ready to ship. In fact I even talked to them about that and they did not want to have folks cash while they were waiting for parts to arrive and unable to deliver product, pretty upfront if you ask me, alot of companies do take money and just place you on a backorder list and you get it whenever they are ready....

What is the solution that you are looking for? I know the SORC has looked at several proposals and made allowances for the HR, I have not heard feedback from anyone to know if they helped or hurt the motor....
