          I believe the legal motors are 1986-1990. There is a formula to interpret the serial number, but I'm not sure what it is. The 9.9 and the 15 are the same except for the carb. You want the 15 carb. You should contact Ed Runne, he will be the best source for details. Work- 973-948-8885. Good luck John Runne 2-Z

          Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

          True parity is one motor per class.

          It's RACING, not just another boat ride!

            Legal powerheads are 1986-1991. Complete legal motors are 1986-1988. The formula for determining the year uses the word "INTRODUCES" with I=1, N=2, T=3, R=4, O=5, D=6, U=7, C=8, E=9, S=0

            For example a motor with the serial reading E15RCD
            E stands for "Evinrude"
            15 is for 15 horsepower
            R stands for rope start
            C=8, D=6 or 1986 year.

            (This example is actually the most ideal A stock motor)
            Good Luck!

              I have found it easier to look at the casting number on the block.

              The correct # is 396780. It is located under the flywheel, to the right of center looking at the engine from the cylinder head.
