    Thanks

    Thanks Stacy (sp?) and AJ.

As for the other discussions, I think Dave Mason started another thread which would probably get more viewers of those ideas.

      Millville availability

The Laurel Lake Property Owners Association doesn't want the races between Memorial Day & Labor Day. Although we have approached them with the possiblity of holding a Stock Nationals in the future.

        I agree, Matt D.

Matt is correct, the respective Commissions need to sack up and make the tough decisions...instead of putting the weight on the clubs to be the bad guys.

But until that's done...common sense should be winning out here.

If you're a guy looking to start racing, do you choose a class with 24 boats nationally or 100 boats??

There are well populated classes for all weight ranges right now. It's no mystery. If you're big, DMH or FEH.

Middle weights...CSH, 20SSH, CMH, BMH, CSR

        Lightweights...ASH, ASR

If you choose the remaing classes that suit you, be prepared to accept the consequences..ie...you may not be on every race schedule. Who's fault is that...yours or the clubs??

And up until 10-15 years ago, stock races and mod races were separate entities. Reason?? You can't run every class at a weekend race and expect to get finished. Can anyone NOT SEE THAT?

        Dana

While many of you make good points about the commissions and such. Ultimately, its up to us racers to guide new drivers or veteran drivers, who are looking to switch classes, into classes that are well populated. This gives those drivers the opportunity to race all the time no matter what race they go to. Unfortunately, common sense and whats good the sport does not always prevail. Politics and personal agendas tend to win over, how? I don't know.

This arguement is exactly the same as it was nearly 10 years ago.
And the only thing that has happened is more classes have been added to accomodate poor upper management decisions.

If it wasn't so sad it would be laughable.

                You forgot something.......

Xracer posted the speeds. One other thing that really needs to be considered is the torque factor of engines. Common sense tells me a medium weight driver will not do as well in ASH as a driver of little weight. So speeds should not be the only thing considered when helping out someone to decide which class to get into. Also, Kilo records are definately not racing speeds, Kilo boats are built for Kilo records, not many can run Kilo boats in regualr oval competiton. A few do and do well, but they are experienced drivers to.

Lots of things to consider I suppose. I really could not nail it down to any one thing.

                  My 2 Cents

I think it is up to the clubs. If we all sit around and wait for our respective commisions to stop adding classes and fiqure it all out we will be rotted in boxes. I think the USTS is a great example of how to do this.

We run a 3 1/2- 4 hr show we start at 1230 and are off the water by 1600..weather permitting. If you look at other professional sports i.e. football, baseball, basketball or even NASCAR the average game or race time is 3 hours. If you want a crowd and you want to keep them interested, which than attracts sponsors you have to put on a show. We only run 10 classes, 6 on Sat and 5 on Sunday each class is 3 heats. The exception is KPROH which runs 2 heats each day. We have lots of test and repair time and a drivers party every Sat night in the pits 5$ and a dish per person. It is a relaxed fun racing weekend.

We run the 10 most populated PRO classes and add OSY400 to 3 races that we KNOW we will have a good turnout. There were a lot of people, my Dad included, who said this was a mistake 23 years ago when it started. We are still here and have been growing and attracting more drivers and crossovers in the past few years than ever.

I know it's hard to see a class die but it's even more exciting to have a full field every race weekend.

                  Just my 2 cents

                    Good Point Kristi..

                    Kristi,

Good point. I wish we could get down to that in Mod and Stock, but everytime something like that is mentioned peoples tempers flare. Then the person proposing such measures starts getting nasty grams, threats, and generally becomes disliked. To bad to. I always did like the Title Series way, just could never adapt it into Mod. Now maybe if someone could form a USTS Series for Mod and one for Stock it might work ?? Who knows. But I could not see it working at regular local races.

Of course Depue IL is out of the question for anything other than Pro to run at for a Title Series. Last time I went there for a Mod/Stock race the locals yelled at me as I went through town to pits, "Stocker" !! Made me mad, wanted to say something but thought why bother, Pro is rich in history there, why worry about it as long as there is boat racing !

Point being made was not about kilo boats or kilo speeds but rather the ungodly number of classes that APBA (et. al) offer a potential new driver. This is absolutely asinine. APBA commissions need to get off their collective butts and take the lead of USTS to resolve this mess.

Made sense to me Jon. I guess it needs a few more words for everyone to understand.

Not everyone weighs 160 or less and lots of guys can't come close to minimum weight in the small classes where low horsepower does make weight critical. Lots of classes for small fraction of the population.

                              Make more sense now?
