  • Millville question(s)

    1. Will there be insured testing on Friday like last year?

    2. Any chance of adding 250cch to the schedule? (we can guarantee 2...plus a "small 250")

    3. Are the dates May 21-22?

  • #2
there will be testing on friday, you must be registered.

not sure about the 250's, we'll havta talk to Rich about that.

and yes, the 21 and 22.

If you have any questions, you should call Rich Runne, hes race director.

When I tried to get him to let us race 4 FER's that would have shown up last year ... he was very inflexible .... don't hope for much

It's not that he's unflexible, there are a lot of classes to be run at Millville and we want to make sure we can get them all done and end at a reasonable time. DVORA has had many discussions on this topic, what classes to run?what not to run, and we try to accomadate everyone. I'm sure if you let him know that there will definitely be enough boats to run, it can be done.

            Shawn,

This is a tough topic when discussed and a tough decision made by every club. I respect the fact that once DVORA gets the schedule together that its stuck to. Also, its nice that DVORA puts enough classes on the schedule to try and accomidate the club members yet not put so many classes on the schedule that you are lucky to get the days races run off or eat dinner at 9 or 10 o'clock at night.

In my opinion, the best solution for every club across the nation is to get every club member racing the same 6-8 classes, regarless of the class. This is not an easy solution to implement but could be done over time if everyone came together. Not to mention, when every club member races the same 6-8 classes and boat count is low, the club could still put on a decent race with decent numbers of boats in every class.

              Just asking...

              All,

We have 3 racers in region 4 now with 250 rigs - we also have a 125 that can run in the 250 class. I know Billy Allen has a 250 rig and he typically attends Millville. I also think Mike Schmidt would be interested because there is not a USTS race that weekend (as far as I know).

The PRO classes have been run before at Millville and I was asking if it was possible this year. If any of the Runne family can get in touch with Rich and ask him, I would greatly appreciate it.

              Thanks again,
              Sean

                Classes.....................

It seems with less than 500 Stock members nation wide why would any club seek to upset anyone?? The logical solution is to schedule "All Stock Classes" and "All J Classes" and advertise that classes with less than say 4 boats will be combined at the discression of the race committe..................That way at least everybody has a chance to get on the water in lieu of staying home ticked off cutting grass!!

The Mod/Pro stuff is a different story. Region 1,2,3 has traditionally been a Stock stronghold and perhaps the Clubs would be wise to continue to pick only those 'choice' Mod/Pro classes that past history has shown will turn out in numbers.

Obviously, the clubs want to keep a manageable schedule and DVORA does a great job of that especially at Millville . I always felt that in lieu of running a bunch of 3 boat races why not combine those weak classes to put on a better show and keep the schedule such that we can be off the water at a reasonable hour! Plus nobody has to sit at home doing the grass thing!!

                Later..............

                  Opposite thinking...

I won't even begin to explain how many hours of heated discussion our club has had over this subject.

How about this idea...which I rarely, if ever, hear brought up.

Instead of clubs bending over backwards to satisfy each and every driver in and outside their club, how about the PARTICIPANTS do the compromising??

As Joe Silvestri hinted at....why don't drivers look around and buy/drive equipment that is popular and helps races be successful and efficient?

Instead of clinging to weak, and in some places, dead classes...drive something that has life.

To borrow a line from JFK..."Ask not what boat racing can do for you, ask what YOU can do for boat racing."

                        Stock Commission????

In the absence of a willing Stock/Mod Commission to set the class structure what's a driver to do?? The Commissions job in part is to set the class structure. Maybe you or I would not choose a weak class to run but who are you/we to tell a driver they can't buy equipment in a APBA legal class. It's our leaders who must set the bar and revoke weak classes national standing or combine it somewhere.................

The Commissions consequently put unfair pressure on the member clubs to make very unpopular decisions in regards to what classes to run since they can't possibly run them all.....................That is of course unless your Ed Hearn and company and want to race from 8am to 8pm!!!!! I love those guys but talk about a racing hangover after Dayton weekends!!!

If the commissions would make the tough decisions the member clubs wouldn't be in the position of being the bad guy all the time!

                        Bye............

                            Millville Availability

How often a year is the water at Millville available? The Title Series could use a race in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Last year dad and I had an idea for a short schedule race, that would run 4 days of racing in 2 days. The only classes on the schedule would be ASR, ASH, CSR, CSH, 20ssH, BMH/CMH, JSH. These are the biggest and most competitive classes we have. The idea is that running twice a day would draw a lot of drivers from further away. So we would have almost full fields maybe even elims in most classes.

As far as cutting classes, that probably won't happen directly. Although it is something that needs to be done. The way to do this though is by implementing class standards again. The smaller classes could still run locally for local points. But would not have a national champion or high point champion, or be eligible for hall of champions. This would eventually encourage these drivers to get into the bigger national classes.
