  • Brian Rhodes back in hospital

Brian was checked into Theda Clark Medical Center today. His arm has become infected. He is going into surgery around 1:00pm. Sounds like he will be in for a day or so. Thanks for all your support. I will keep you updated. Joe Z

Sorry to hear that, hope all turns out well for him.

Did his cut suit slide down during the accident or did the prop cut through the suit?

        prop or side fin?

from the looks of the cut it looked more like a side fin than a prop

            Brian

Joey, I had just met Brian the night before the race in Ocoee but my first thought of him was what a positive person. I think positive people are most likely to survive anything that comes there way ! Let him know he has my church praying for him. You take care also BUD.

Joe- Make sure and tell Brian that my 8 year old put him on our prayer list at church also. She was at the race and knew what happened. When they asked for prayer requests, she was the one who announced it. I thought that was pretty cool that she was the one that thought of it. She keeps asking me how he is doing. Thanks for the update and keep us posted.

Brian had on the mesh style Kevlar sleeves. This is the same style that Donny had on in California when he got cut. In both situations the mesh ripped when the sleeve of the arm got caught and pulled the sleeve down. I WOULD STRONGLY suggest if you have this style or any style for that matter you really consider the age of your Kevlar and replace them. I know Donny's were older and I am pretty sure so were Brian's. I don't know if it was the age of the mesh or if is just weaker material but I now make Donny wear the jacket style Kevlar.

Rick Miller and I along with Jim and I forget his last name were on the rescue boat attending to Brian. It did appear that his sleeve had slid down as Don has stated. The cuts on his arm looked too straight to have been from a prop so something else may have caused them. At any rate, we all wish Brian well and sincerely regret his injury.

                          Brian Rhodes update

                          Hello everyone,

Brian's surgery went well. They went in and cleaned his injury out. It was probably a good thing he had surgery again because they found the muscle that was repaired had started coming apart. I just talked with him a few minutes ago, sounded pretty disappointed. I guess the antibiotics are giving him headaches and upset stomach. It will be a hard week for him since they want to leave the incision open for cleaning because of infection. He hopes to get out of hospital today.Thankyou to the ones that have donated to his fund so far.
For those of you asking if it was the fin or prop that got him, it was the prop. Looks like on his kevlar a piece of the boat ripped his sleeve up with the prop following behind with about six cut marks on the inside of the kevlar. Joe Z

                            Hello,

Please tell him he is in my thoughts and prayers. We have talked several times because he has my old boat number.

Also having designed the Spectra sleeves and Jackets I'd ve glad to take a look at the sleeves and see if there is anything worng with the materials.
