Now that the ballots should all be in, I'll ask again, who are all the new racers that are showing up with sidewinders? I was as excited as everyone else when I heard a new motor was to be introduced into the B class. The B class needed a new motor, and I always liked the Runne's so it was a win /win.
Little did I realize at the time, that the motor was also slated for the well-populated and affordable A class.
I was even more surprised to find out that there would be a sidewinder in the 20 class.
One of the things I always liked about stock outboard was competing against the same equipment I owned, now, for some reason, it's ok for 2 or even 3 engines in one class.
I'll be the first to admit that we need new people in the sport, but lets be honest, the sidewinder is not a motor for the inexperienced new guy. I helped a veteran racer test his sidewinder ASR for two days before the Whitney Point nationals, he had it going almost 2mph faster than his omc. First heat of eliminations the motor cut out for three laps, second heat it died completely in the first turn. My point is that if experienced racers can't figure them out, how are the new guys going to do it?
The racer schools are working, and in my area they are using the omc, and yamato engines to entice new racers into our sport. Affordable/ dependable motors.
I do believe that sidewinder has a place in our sport, just not in our most cost effective most entry friendly classes. I want the sidewinder to succeed just like everyone else, I just hope there are still enough of the "old" racers around for the sport to survive. Jim Sweeney

I was thinking it was sad that only 62 people cared enough to submit a vote in an organization with so many members eligible to vote on the issue.

You had to race the class to cast a vote on this issue. 112 people raced it and were eligible to cast a vote. That is a 55% response. That is pretty good in any election.

      • How about this? could this work? could this be criticized, reviewed, tweaked, and just thought about for a while, and still look like a good idea in say a year from now?

        C-Stock, 302,102
        C-Restricted, 302,102 restricted. Yamato 80

        B-Stock, Sidewinder 20, 25XS restricted
B -Restricted, Sidewinder restricted, Hot Rod

        A-Stock

        D-Stock

This would put the "Motor of choice" up front and allow the old motors to still race.

Name the classes what ever you want.
