      Cheap

Boat racing can be the cheapest pro/am sport to compete in. It can also be the most expensive. Depends on your version and how hard you want to go. Networking is KEY to winning in boat racing.

If you learn some basic skills, you can build your own race hulls for under 2g, you can build your own engines for well under 2g. Depends on what class you want to race, and some things. On those same classes you can do cheap, you can find very expensive if you farm it all out. Again, networking is key... Avoid the folks that are in it to make a living at it, or make some good money off builds. That will skyrocket a budget racer. Learn some simple skills and go for it. It is not rocket science to build a boat. Even the latest designs are not difficult.

I got into car racing for three years. It is without a doubt more expensive. But you do a LOT more bang for your buck as well, so if you calculated it out at a sportsman level, the cost per lap might be comparable. I am not sure. But the outly of cash for car racing is up front every weekend, and the prize money is a lot more than boats in a lot of cases at local tracks.

What we do in Mod/Pro/stock boat racing is no different than the local dirt track or paved 1/2mile track that they race at every weekend. We are a hobby. A vehicle from which to have fun and enjoy our lives.

Very true Dave.. We have a neighbor who always says " there is a guy for that" he is book smart and particle dumb..Maybe that's why he is always complaining about no money.. If I could not do the boats and motors then we could not afford this and so many folks are willing to help a person so there is no reason to pay big bucks to play..

New Skeeter bass boat with 250 SHO Yamaha (4 stroke), power poles (2), latest side imaging electronics, tandem trailer. Sticker = $71K. Soooooo, any kneel down/lay down boat racing= next to nothing. I don't know how many boat racers we would have left if you needed to make that upgrade every year???

Dan, I'm sure you could find something cheaper in the region 10 area especially on the east side of the cascades. Heck, I'd even let you run my boat.

                              Just messing with you
