I could be pharaphrasing, but it was something along the lines of why should I spend the money to go to Reno when something like this happens....Don was in on the call if memory serves me correct. Again, I may not be totally correct on this, I just remember it being said. If I was not studying for a work exam I would look back at the notes of the meeting. Oh ya....merry Christmas to everybody! Dave,
Not 100% true, yes it is part of the reason for no commissioner in R5, some of the other reasons were the ridiculous actions taken or not taken. Also if you recall a R5 member did run for the SORC Chair position this year albeit a last minute decision....

    • Since When is Democracy a problem

I know that title should get a few hits....and likely some personal attacks. If the members vote on an issue like a petition, why is it viewed as such a threat? We are not North Korea here. If members don't like the process, change the process. If members don't like the rules, change the rules. There have been several decisions made in all categories (I have been a member of the OPC commission) that really weren't good decisions for the sport. Sometimes these decisions were made with the best of intentions, but with hindsight weren't the best decision. Other times they were political and/or self-serving. The ultimate decision on something that really matters should have the option to be voted on by the members themselves. Sometimes we personally may not agree. If we don't, either change the process or revisit the decision with new data/information and change it.

With regard to members unwilling to serve on the commission because of one issue they may not agree with, sounds like a good choice they don't serve on the commission. As a representative, you won't always agree on the ultimate outcome. Further, you represent your region's members to the best of your ability. AND if through a democratic process those members make a decision on their own behalf, what's the big deal?

It's unfortunate that it takes a Petition to get it done, but there really weren't many (if any) options left.

20ssH is one of the largest, if not the largest, class in Stock. There is no upside to having the SW in the class, and the risk of hurting the class far outweighs any potential upside that no one has been able to quantify.

          See you in Reno.

          All the best,

Mike this quote could have been used in every single class in the 80s that got new motors. I know sidewinder is different than merc or Yamato. But when the 302 came into CSH, I guarantee, somewhere, someone said the exact same thing. I think CSH is doing just fine....I just don't see your down side.

All I see is a waste of everyone's time and energy that could be put forth into getting new members into your region. Or any region for that matter.

Why are there not 50,000 hits on the SOA J project yet? How come we are the only region doing that type of project? Why do other regions not have 12 j's at local races? These are questions that need answering, not what happens IF the SW20 goes 70mph, when I can't get it to go 63mph....

I like it.. This tread is totally nonproductive and does nothing to promote boat racing

            • The HARM project is absolutely phenomenal!! That is the type of thread that should get 100K+ hits!

Sometimes it takes the “power of AND” to get more things done than assuming it’s a “this OR that” option. In this case, we are working to allow the drivers to vote on the 20ssH class AND supporting the HARM project and other promotional activities in our Region.

If we lived closer to Seattle, me and the boys would be there every weekend helping out. Since we can’t be there, we helped how we could and provided set-up information, dimensions, and pics of the transom on Jared’s JH. In no way am I suggesting that our input helped the project…just stating our full support of it.

In our Region we typically have a few folks that lend out equipment to help get people in boats and started. Tad Olson, Chicago Paul, the Allens, John Korbus, myself, and others have all lent out equipment…and some times it comes back a bit busted it up. We do it because we love the sport and are trying to help it grow. We see what Michigan Hydroplane have done with their Driving School and are looking for ways to improve ours! I personally have bought boats, props, and even a 302 for the club to use until we got our stock one from TJ. I mention this not to look for a pat on the back, but to highlight the positive things our Region is doing as well. Could we do better? Yes..and that is what we are trying for in 2014.

While it can be argued that there is no harm in having another mfg in 20ssH, I still fail to see the benefit. In fact, I think the continued uncertainty in many of our classes has caused a lot of folks to hold off on their purchases. As one prime example, one of the best known names in racing (for 30+ years) have stated that they don’t know what to do with all the chaos in Stock. After their final race this season, they were actually contemplating selling all of their equipment and getting out of racing. That is a good indicator that things need to improve.

Our position has been that there are 2 competitive motors at 2 different price points that can allow folks to get in fairly inexpensively. Another motor is not needed to help the class grow. What would help is logical motor selection and locking in rules to provide some certainty on the future of the class(es).

Please keep posting HARM updates. Love it!!

              - Mike

                Mike,

Are you seriously just seeing this now ? Lots of people, long time members, have quit over the last 30 years becasue of the chaos.....

I am not defending your position or arguing against it. If it is so hard to get what you want in stock for a particular class, why not combine into Mod where the drivers get the vote of each class ? One big umbrella has a lot more influence than a small struggling category with all this so called chaos going on. And most likely would have ruffled far less feathers as it is for the good of the sport, not just one class.

Just wondering if a different approach would have achieved your desired outcome ?

                    Seriously???

Don't be such a Hater. Ask around, we've been doing it for years, AND getting people started in racing. This year, we've already offered to loan a Merc J to get some kids in boats. Feel free to falsely judge my motives on that.

                    • Have some facts before you make accusations.

Oh wait, after thinking about it more. This year, I don't think I lent out any 20ssH equipment (except 225 which is normal). We did, however, lend out Mercs for J and for AX. I also lent out a Y102 for someone to race CSH.

                      Man, I'm a total jerk.

                      Nice uninformed opinions Kampkurz!
