Dam n that Walt. You could have almost afforded to split the cost of a Sidewinder with Reed if dad hadn't squandered that fortune...
Does he ever get credit for that series anymore? It has to be at least 25 years now that the series has been going. Longest continuous series in APBA history? Where Craig Bowman when you need his memory...

This motor is race ready, clearanced by George Stillwill back east. The piston wall clearance is essentially new so it is suitable for J and of course you can hone it out for AX optimum performance. It has a porcelain main bearing and currently has boysen reeds installed for testing purposes. I Still have the metal reeds which will be supplied. This motor is still on break-in oil on a new set of rings and on the test wheel is 150 rpm slower than the above kilo record motor. This gear foot (polished) and tower is from a new APBA Merc with the equivalent of about one season of racing. Powerhead has about 10 races total history 4 races on new rings. As a used motor it was used about 6hours by the previous owner who then stored it for many years. $3,200.
Used J motors selling for $3000 plus and we can't get Yamato's lets kill the $4500ish Side Winder
Mark Wheeler has agreed to accept the petition and it will go out to vote to all participating 20SSH drivers. Clearly I do not agree with the decision but I am an APBA boat Racer. I will not jump to another category or another sanctioning body.....I will support the decision of the voters.
I encourage drivers to vote against the removal of the 20 SW at this stage, the best interest of your class and the best interest of a Stock Outboard program does not always flow through the equipment that you own as an individual but what the outside public can obtain to race competitively.
If you own a 20SW you got 12 months to race your asses off in 2014 and then I guess we will have data to present an argument to put the motor back in for 2015 maybe even through a petition.
If you own a Yamato 80 look forward to your petition to drop the height of the 302 and 102 in your class to 3/4" to protect the over heating and to insure that the Yamato 80 can compete in the class that was created for it..... preparing it now.
Peace.

The 321 is a 302, with a funny carburetor cover and a different exhaust snout. This is the current production engine from Yamato Motor Company, Japan.

Put the restrictor back into the 25SSH, and make the restrictor progressively smaller every year until the 20 Sidewinder is winning. This encourages the investment into the Sidewinder and gives it it's own class.
Yes, I know about 8 25SSH drivers are going to be bent. Some will tell me class is about to come back... Just dig up all your posts from three years ago when I proposed it then and cut and paste them in.
This solution would please the greatest number of people, and hurt the least. If only congress could work like this
12M
As a 25MOD owner and racer, and a BMH owner and racer, and a 25SSH owner and racer, I have to ask and then DUCK as I ask......Who in 25SSH are willing to move to MODIFIED and where?
How many still run 25MOD?
I ran 25MOD at Franklin last season with a "new-be" struggling to get in the sport and with Will Hunter with a very strong 25XS as a probationary motor and watched him leave my best 25MOD a half lap back till it broke another crank from a smaller wheel trying to turn it harder to compete.
I have successfully ran my 25XS/25SSH in BMH to make a class and finished 2nd (To Billy Allen) several times.
Having said that, as I smell the tar and feathers warming, I Have to ask several more questions and RUN!!
1. How many 25XS/25SSH hydro racers including myself are willing to run MODIFIED if they have a home there in unrestricted engine, unrestricted set-up, and unrestricted weight form ?
2. How many 25 MODIFIED owner/racers, including myself, are willing to see the writing on the wall and let the XS have/dominate the class which will be the case in my opinion?
I hate to shoot myself in the 25 MOD (errrrr 400ccH?) foot and receive my tar and feathering, but perhaps its time? Then they could over time vote for or against modifications to their engines as the vote wishes.
3. How many BMH owner/drivers, including myself, would be willing to let the 25XS in?.....Personally, as a BMH owner and racer, this and past seasons, it makes sense as far as speed, in this class.
But, in my opinion and let the rest of the 25XS racers decide for themselves, it will require a bigger boat to run in the rougher waters this class produces with the current dominate Y-80 motor.
The Yamatoes can keep 20SSH, The 20 Sidewinder stays in B-Stock (restricted?) till the 15H/Rs dissipate or make the progression to A-MODIFIED, and 25SSH goes MODIFIED.
Promote 302SSH and encourage CSH to move/evolve to it, or buy a $30 restrictor for 20SSH. OR, go OSY-400!!......Seems like a No-loss-No-brainer in my "PEE-brain"!
(Hey, Just cut two STOCK classes!)
Their some tough questions especially with several "Big Kahunas" with long term and several generations time invested in all of the mentioned classes, including myself, to have to consider the asked compromises for the sport.
And yes I realize the MODIFIED vs STOCK ideologies .......But perhaps it's time to look beyond?
Or I could Just take my "Nonsense" thoughts, tar and feathers, and climb back on my Segway and retreat to the mushroom cave......
Popcorn is ready, beer is cold, and I have 1/2 doz. episodes of "Duck Dynasty" and several football games recorded ...... Good luck Y'all......Last edited by STEVE FRENCH; 12-09-2013, 04:25 AM.100N STEVE FRENCH > Nobody can hang with my STUFF!! >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tna3B5zqHdk

What are most peoples thoughts on this? Can the restrictor be tweaked? Does it need to be? Or is it ok the way it is?

instead of starting or passing rumors...........why not call Ric or even Mike Ward and get the facts.........and the 321 model desig. means there have been 19 subtle little changes (nut, bolts, mag shape, etc) since the intro of the 302.....(302+19= 321)...Last edited by mercguy; 12-08-2013, 02:10 PM.Daren
