  • I had to check the top corner of your post twice Scott. I thought for sure the words had to be those of Eddie the lawyer! Well put explanation.

This has been the most entertaining thread since Mike Barrett disappeared. Could someone start a petition to bring him back?

I'm sure Ed will issue a rebuttal upon waking from his slumber. Scott is a friend but his moments of brilliance are few and far between. Unless he is drinking of course, it makes him smarter.

There is also an established, effective, back-door way to ship motors in the USA, but you didn't hear that from me.

Cost? Call Ricky, he will know.

Who cares. Our OSY motor that we have used finally was re-rung after 6 years and it got faster the whole time until the cylinders we drastically out of round. I also burnt up that same motor blowing, the head gasket no fewer than 6 times in that life-span; with Yamato 302's, time-on-the-transom doesn't seem to make negative difference. One could argue, the more you use them, the faster they go.

I'm just excited to race classes where the one and only produced motor in that class is the motor of choice, aren't you?
I love my Yamatos, my brother and nephew and I have 4, love the Hot Rods too because it is a way better ride and looking forward to loving my SW. I will race the motor of choice for the class, that is the best value in racing, showing up at a race with the power plant that grants you the best opportunity to compete.

I believe we are all members of a volunteer organization and we need to support the decisions of our elected volunteers. I have said it here before, tell me what the motor is and tell me the rules for the boat. I will race it. That is the spirit of Stock Outboard. Dropping rules and letting fuel and motor specs slide because we fear extinction is crazy.

Having a small group attempt to side step the organization and governing body that has been in place for 100 years that we all have made a choice to be a member of is unacceptable to me.

We have a process to implement change, follow the current process or be an agent to amend the established process, do not go outside with a short cut based on emotion and fear absent of fact and data.

Yes Mike, I am back on my soap box.

I have not stated one time whether I agree that the 20 SW should be in the class or not, as a matter of fact you have not asked the question. I am against your gorilla tactics. Bobbing and weaving around the process.

        • And it only took 33,000+ posts to figure it out..
I'm still on PAV 225's side of the soap box...
          Region 7 Rules.......
BUT,, I still do not have a dog in this fight..
BUT,, regardless of all of the 33,000+ posts and Bu__S__T,, I still plan on
buying a Yamato 302 and race once again... Probably in region 7 and NBRA.
Ya'll have a great week-end. Headed to the golf course.

          • I will take your word that the SW's are equal, when they run. The 302 original stock (302SS & international OSY400) has to be the most equal. They use them for betting in Japan. The problem in the US is all the modifications allowed. Then, there does become a difference in performance.
Many remember the days of Edger Rose. One thing he did work to assure was stock remained stock. That is what 302SS has going for it and the reason for its growth. J/AX had it, but the "stock" is slipping. SW can have that as well of we really keep it stock.

Phasing out older motors will certainly help eliminate the benefits of years of getting the few "choice" motors. Back to the thread, 302 restricted solves the 20SS issue.

Please refer to the following rule which clearly states that classes and motor eligibility are left to the category. You can only use APBA general rules or by laws if the category does not have a rule that is more restrictive. And the stock rule clearly is.

              2. Stock Outboard:
              A. Racing for the Stock Outboard classes shall be conducted under the supervision of a Stock Outboard Racing Commission (SORC). The decisions of the SORC shall be final in all matters pertaining to the administration and interpretation of the rules for these classes. This Commission shall serve as an appeal board for owners, drivers, Referees, Inspectors and Race Committee. The SORC shall consist of at least one member from each Region of APBA with at least 30 Stock Outboard members. One of the SORC’s duties shall be the enhancement of membership and the promotion of the growth of Stock Outboard racing. The SORC shall have the power to determine that specific motors may be eliminated or approved for use in other classes with restrictions. Any action under this paragraph shall be made at the Association’s annual meeting. Any rule in conflict with this paragraph shall be automatically repealed.

Sorry fellas your petition will be denied by APBA by rule...... better get it on the SORC agenda for discussion, nothing will go to a vote without your commission's approval.
Others much more qualified than us have been consulted before the Petition was released. We have more than enough signatures and will be forwarding on to APBA offices soon.

              Have a nice day.

To be honest, your opinion on the 20 SW in 20ssH is irrelevant to me. Therefore, I have not asked the question. I am much more interested letting the drivers vote and ensuring that the class remains one of the largest classes in Stock.

It's not an opinion, it is clearly stated in our rules, I guess we will see what the BOD says.
