Isn't pot legal out there? A little of that might turn that Pigeon into a Raven...oh, and there was no intent on "winning," I'll let the SideWinder do that ;-)

20-H With The "KIT"
All or most all of the non kit 20-H's had a "COPPER" coating. When the "KITS" came out the 20-H produced more power than ever and broke the cranks. Mercury made new cranks that were "Black" becasue they were heat treated differently than the "Copper" cranks. I don't think any of the "NON KIT" 20-H's ever broke a crank.
ADD FROM THE PIGEON: The early Quincy Loopers broke rods until Mercury (Charlie) made some rods that were stronger (Where they broke)...those rods were black also.
ADD:
I will buy 10 Siderwinders as soon as they have their own class, until then I will continue to "BASH" them.

Keep it up Ron we love it
GO Ron, great pictures, you have too many good idea. You know people don't listen to reason, just look at the last election.
Here's a funny quote " If SideWinder was used for a year in stadium gamble racing" it would have to be worth millions, odds r the same as winning the megabillion lottery jackpot.
Matt I know why u like that #66 Capt Amer boat. ur getting like Bruce Summers not as old, but putting ur age as a boat number
This is good entertainment, my wife wanted to watch a movie tonight. I told her I needed to read side w post first to get me laughing! I'm glad we all have a good sense of humor, won't it be great when racing starts so we can get away from this computer!!

What is Bruce Summer's Number??
92-V??? Just joking Bruce.
Bruce started racing in 1967.....I won the John Ward Trophy Race, the Chicago to Millawukee to Chicago Marathon, D Racing Runabout Nationals, and the Havasu Twin Engine Outboard World Championships..... Bruce worked for OMC......He's just a KID!!!
By 1967, I had raced for 12 years!!! I WAS 23!

We all like to look on history and walk down Memory lane but one cant just live in the past, today is now but tomorrow today will be history just like each and everyday becomes. Sometimes you just have to unpack your baggage and hang it in the closet or grow old quite fast carrying it.Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

Local racing

I'd like to know what a restricted 302 (20 SS) runs for speed at 1 3/8 below the bottom.

I'll continue to "BASH" the Sidewinder as long as it is in the "A" Class!
Let it run it its own class! Why ruin the "A" class with it? Last year we got 12 new "A" drivers....in SoCal, this year none.
Here is a picture of 1935 "A" Hydro....78 years ago.....
I am often perplexed as to why people want to race anything they want for a class and then demand that they get national points and APBA national tech rules etc..... dust off all of your old stuff and race it all you want locally. Let APBA focus on a small number of national classes.
We should implement a rule that there is a fixed number of national classes. When your local program exceeds the participation of one of the classes that it replaces a dwindling class... Why is DSR a national class with a National Championship title, with a very few number of regional racers and 2-3 races per where they can field a race at all. Make it a local class until it gains support acrossed the country...

Donahue and Penske blew a engine after qualifying 12th. They entered a Porsche 911 Carrerra which spelled the beginning of the end for the inexpensive 911S series Porsches to compete with!
Staying up 24 hours and observing the drivers and crews was cool..........endurance racing is a interesting world!

As fas as Local Class go, Region 12 is well aware of "LOCAL" classes. We have a Local class called COR that (Rod Zapf and I started) had 10 "WET" boats at the last race, the actual count of "WET" boats is closer to 16 with two new drivers getting their boats ready and two more trying to find boats to race. COR could have 20 boats by The Blue Water Resort and Casino 300 in October. (Note: A COR boat is 20 feet long with a 2.0 liter V-6 Mercury: A boat, motor and trailer can be bought for $4,500. A very competitive rig can be bought for $7,500).
Region 12's Stock boat count is roughly 6-7 AXS Hydros, 12 A Hydors, 4 20 SS Hydros and 4 C Hydros. With this boat count Region 12 Stocks can't put on a race. So, after next weekend's race, Region 12's next race will be a Long Beach in August. (Parker Thanksgiving, Bakersfield in March, Parker in the spring, and Long Beach in the summer.) Stockers can race in NorCal by driving 400-500 miles each way.
Marlee Hill set a goal (2012) of 12 "A" Hydros. We met that goal. She has the same plan (2013 goal) for 20 SS Hydro. The difference in 20 SS Hydro, I'm not buying boats and motors and selling them on payments or selling them cheap.
My six Stadium Boats, I plan on keeping them to help SUPPORT boat racing. I plan to loan or rent them out. Stadium Racers will be a LOCAL CLASS.

Electric Motors

Electric cars are increasing market share every year and are produced and sold in numbers far above the 70's and in many places which are not California.
John McManus
My thoughts of 72 High School teams building an electric boat to race makes me think of my wife and I driving NASCAR type cars week before last. For $250 each, we got the NASCAR "EXPERIENCE". (Other than my wife lapping me twice, it was great). What I noticed about the 30-40 people there was their smiles. Everyone that drove the cars had a great time, well maybe the guy that got DQ's for passing me....
Watching the High Schools Solar Cup Teams makes me believe, these students could be recruited in to Stock Outboard Racing. What I also came to realize, most of these teams had never driven a boat, never saw a race boat, most never even saw a boat run on a lake.....but they had a common interest and that was BOAT RACING.
I was around whn Merucy Outboards started racing. I was around when the "ALKY" Club kids "THOSE GOD DAM MERCURYS" out of their club. I see no "DOWN SIDE" of allowing electric "SOLAR RACERS" race with us, even if they do only go 14 MPH.
Long Beach Poly the team I have worked with the most, get $5,000 dollars a year sponsorship from the Long Beach Water Department (5 grand for one race)...

Mosport 1965
John,
I was there for that race, watched most of it from Moss's corner. We watched from behind the three foot high chicken wire fence. When we leaned over the fence to get a good picture of the CAN-AM cars the air from the cars would nearly take the camera out of your hand. Jim Halls (sucker cars) were amazing. Still the best racing ever, sadly missed in the cookie cutter, highly restricted series run today. Unlike today's racing the pits were totally open to the public as were the drivers. Those were the days!!! Gosh I sure miss them.
Your old buddy,
Mitch
