I hear you have a handful of prospective new "A" drivers down south for this year. That's great!

I have a top-competitor
OMC/Evinrude "A" motor ($1,500 ...... $1,400 to a new driver)

and an equally hot ~

ReedCraft "A" hydro - full hardware and tank ... primo boat ...... consistent winner in ASH and FAH ..... ($850 - $800 to a new driver) ...... both for $2,250 or $2,100 to new driver.

Delivery included as far south as Bakersfield. Special arrangements needed for more distant transportation.

Mr. Hill, thats an excellent deal. So, what your saying is that if anyone wants to sell there OMC stuff or boats, these are the prices they should be selling it for.
However, straw-man type posts I dont think will help your cause of mantaining the status quo. A full report given by one of the younger Hills, with the assistance of yourself, spanning over a year or two pertaining to your concern for the SideWinder implementation might be recieved better. But, a full assault using incremental anecdotes every time the SideWinder pops out its head, may be falling on deaf ears. Also, given that you own a Marine business, I would also recomend a current 2-stroke US production motor that you think would be a good replacement for the everlasting gobstopper aka:OMC in the report.

Hill Marine LLC make Signature Propellers. Less than 2% of our business is racing propellers.

Myself, if I was was trying to change things, I'd use the 302 Yamato as an AXS, A, 20, C and OSY...all on a C Hydro Boat. But that's me and not my idea!

I Don't Need An Apology

Sounds fun....but exchanging one out of production motor for another out of production motor that would probably sink most small class boats seems to be a bit fleeting. Understandably, there is an inventory of 302's but just as the OMC, its not an out of the box runner. I apologize for the claim that you own Hill Marine LLC.

Chad Hill and I own Hill Marine. Chad will be 36 this year. He attended the 1977 Stock Nationals at Bakersfield when he was a week old. He started racing at, quit for two years after Jim Hauenstein's death, then quit again four years ago June.

He and Mike Quindazzi, Jr. are building a boat for the Blue Water Resort and Casino 300 to be raced this October 2013.

We have been a boat racing family since 1935. My dad was the oldest Mercury dealing in California and never had a retail shop. He had his dealership until he died in 1997.

I bought a 6-8 boat trailer with the idea of hauling boats to the races to loan out and or sell. I'm building a Modified Designed Stadium racer. I plan to build six of these to take them to the races.

I have promoted racing and races for most of my life...The High School Solar Championships are coming this May, 72 High School teams, 24 volts, most boats have my props. Finish my thoughts: New motors (REAL MOTORS)...what division of Stock Outboard races 15 HP electric motors?

I Ain't Got There, Yet!

All six boats are named: 66 is Captain America

I am actually thinking of using 302's. They are good motors and if my "Step Bottom" makes these "Stadium Boats" not legal runabouts, they would be legal C Hydros.

Also, I could use the six motors to build "MY" "Roll Up" C Runabout class.

Boat Number 888: The Tiger is yellow.

Boat Number 7: La Tortuga Expreso (Turtle Express in English) is black and hot pink! (Robby Gordon Speed Energy colors).

Yamato 80's

When Tom Ige brought the Yamato to California in 1976 they cost $300 plus $18 sales tax. By August 1977, I'd sold more Model 80's than Tommy. "B" Local was the biggest class at the 1977 Stock Nationals.....Of course, we paid some nice prizes for winning.

40 years later, the Model 80 is still a great motor....except it is a 2 stroke.

Mr. Hill, with all due respect, you've lost me here. Were we not talking about SideWinder and the viability of it in the "A" class. So, I'll bring this conversation back into the ball field. A couple of points in your pervious posts that I can apply to the SideWinder issue. First, you said your Dad was a Mercury dealer, then you must remember the days somewhere in the 50s and 60s when APBA B class went through a motor almost every other year for about 6 to 10 times the weekly income. To correlate this to the sidewinder, pound for pound, your getting a great deal for a runner out of the box. Second, your electric motor project looks great and is an extremely commendible endevour, I'm sure the logistics are a nightmare though. Great concept, but the electric car died in California in the 70's and if your not Bombardier or Sea-Doo, I think the electric boat will too. Not sure how the electric motor correlates to the SideWinder, but I do know that the SideWinder would be a great platform for a modernization of outboard racing including standard hull design, propellers and displacement. Third, the Y80, not sure where you were going with this point, but I know I can't order new Y80's and there is no factory parts ordering information for replacement parts. As for the connection to the sidewinder conversasion, well, I'm sure you know what I'm trying to say...

I bought one of the first Y80's in the East from Mitch Myers in( I think ) 1979. It was somewhere around $450+ when I was making $200 a week. The turned down propshaft broke the second race, so I never tested. Still won my qualifying heat at Sarana with a completely untouched, stock motor. Pretty good value.

To get the same value with a $4500 motor I would have to be making about $2000 a week. I don't.

Broken prop shaft on the second race? Good value? And, I'm pretty sure all Yamato's are used when we get them. Fresh Yamato factory motors I'm sure were a bit more. But, for a used motor thats a good price, I guess. If SideWinder was used for a year in stadium gamble racing I'm sure they would sell it for a comprarable price.
