No this was a full stock nationals. all classes were on the schedule. West coast (mainly region 10 in wa) run every stock class except 25ssh, dsr, and the b classes. Dsh has about 8 drivers in Washington. There were only 3 classes because that's all who showed up. Region 10,11, and 12 were represented but no others.

Region 10 has the second largest outboard participation in the country. Can't speak for anyone else but my guess for lack of participation from other regions is money....Cali gas was 4.29 a gallon....

Either way I had a great time. Race went well for all aspects.

Just curious. Could you find legal gas in Cali.... or did you bring your own fuel. There is no legal (non ethanol) pumps in Yakima where I live now. Just curious what is available for fuel this year

            Bakersfield

We tried to get a D stock class for winternationals., but I am not ready, Darren had to work, etc etc. There are d stocks in the area....but they hibernate in garages. From what I hear there are people interested in running the class again....just need to get things going. Also, there is some pretty strong interest in region 12 for the new 302 SSH class. If memory serves me correct, didn't somebody at APBA do a study on the amount of money each racer and has/her pit crew and friends and spectators bring into a town? Or was that another racing group. legal gas

Sean,I have been buying gas in Auburn. It's called the fuel farm just off highway 18 on C street. Cash only. It's nice to pull up and pump gas rather than haul all the cans to a marina. They are still on the "pure gas" list. Hope we get to see more of you and your racing team this year. Rocky

Brought my own. Even brought some legal fuel (or what i thought was legal) for a few cali friends.

Funny/almost a problem with the fuel i brought for a few other racers. My gas station closest to my house has always had non-ethenol fuel. I've always bought there. 2 weeks ago I bought 5 gallons to test with and used the remains for my CSH heats at the winternationals. Tested legal. I bought 15 gallons from that same station last week for a few cali racers that requested it. It tested illigal. Glad we tested it all before they raced. Just never know these days when stations are and are not selling non-ethenol. I guess next time i'll have to ask instead of keep assuming.

With the spring season upon us and most of the region 10 races being south of Seattle here is a station very close to I-5 with non ethanol premium at competitive prices. While I have not tested this fuel this year I have in the past with no problem. Pay by credit card only, I think 24 hours. Check your map it is about 1/4 mile off I-5.

Now for some info and history:
The Kern County Parks & Rec Dept. are doing what they can to keep prices stable but in this era of fiscal responsibility they had to raise some of their fee's, that plus the spike in gas prices just weeks before the race hurt alot of people from attending. Yes, we lucky California racers get to pay the highest race fee's in the nation (sarcasm) but it is what it is and I appreciate all those that made the trek and attended and congratulate the winners and those that participated. For the most part it's just part of doing business and I want to make clear that the County has been on our side since they almost made the decision to treat us like the Drag boats, who race their 5 ~7 times a year a few years ago (which due to the outpouring of support by the racing community they changed their minds at the last minute and kept us separate.)

Next, Bill Boyes is right, Manual Carnakis was an APBA outboard boat racer (check the honor squadron for a complete history) as well as the Mayor of Bakersfield. As the story goes, he got funds (State and Fed. and even some from the local whorehouse) to get his beloved lake built for Boat racing, they used to run in the same park (Hart Park) around the island but Manual wanted a real lake for circle boat racing and yes, Dr. Ming was lone hold out vote and Manny being Manny knew what strings to pull to get his way thus why the Lake is called "Lake Ming". This is a purpose built lake that was built by a boat racer for boat racing. I am sad we don't race here more than once a year but even last weekend's attendance doesn't justify it as I don't think we had more than 75 racers attend and we really need to be closer to 85 to not lose money so we'll have to see how we ended up.
Hope to continue to see the stocks growing (ASH has consistently been over 10 since last year) and now CSH/20SSH seem to be on the rebound. Our AXH program is also going well.
                        Sincerely,
                        Ross Wallach, Race Director

Thank you for the info Ross...I will do what I can on my end to get the DSH class going in California again. I seem to remember when I first started racing that is was a going concern....I have composed a very nice thank you letter to Kern County for letting us use Lake Ming....Where should I send it? Dave
