Winternationals
I want to give a thank you to SCSC for a great race this weekend. They were very well organized, race started on time both days end ended early on Saturday, they let the water calm down between heats, had their act together risk management wise, all in all a very fun weekend. Thank you!

Bakersfield/lake Ming
The Southern California group used to run at lake Ming 4 times a year...or more. This is coming from Doug Rae. Kern county makes it harder and harder every year for them to run there due to increased fees and regulations....What many people do not know is that Lake Ming was built for boat racing in the 50's...I do not have the history of it, maybe Ernie or somebody else can chime in and give better info, but Kern County officials need to know how much money we as racers bring into the Bakersfield area...hotel rooms, food, gas, the list goes on and on. I am going to send them a nice letter (Kern County) thanking them for letting us use the site, and i am going to include the money aspect in my letter. And, we need to let them know the history of the lake and the fact that we were there first.....something along those lines. If enough people raise their voices on the fee issue maybe something can be done, maybe they will make it feasible for SCSC and SCOA to run a few times a year there. Just some random thoughts. Dave

In a post on HR last week, propnuts mentioned handing out slips of paper to local merchants when he paid his bills at Cullaby. The papers read, "This money is being spent due to the boat races at Cullaby Lake, please support the racers that support your business." Maybe something like that should have been done at Ming. Can't change the past; maybe something like that should be done for all of the future races. Even if the paper never makes it to the hands of someone that cares about money, at least someone might see it that might not otherwise know that a race is being held nearby.Dave

Mayor Carnakas

Great weekend, gratz to all involved
It was great to see all my Cali friends again. Pitting with the Hills was quite an experience. It did my heart a lot of good talking to the Region 12 outboarders at this race. Not only did they figure out how to bring outboard racing back from the brink (full field of A's and AXS's) but they are focused and committed to continue building Outboard racing in SoCal. I know no one, myself included, likes paying the higher entry fees, but as I was told a few times, if it wasn't for Ross Wallach putting on that race there wouldn't be any outboard racing. The show was really well run, and even with the wind coming up we managed to finish all the outboard heats.
Any way thanks to Ross, Jeff, Ernie, the Hills, Dan, Jean, Roger and whoever I missed for making this race happen.Moby Grape Racing
