Actually it might be a couple races. I started hearing stuff as soon as a Sidewinder started running good in region six. I started hearing "something's gotta be done". From a longtime respected racing family, who most likely, had a ton of time/work/money in their OMC's. Can't quite blame them really. Totally different attitude than the driver of the Sidewinder.

I agree

And Chris J., no I am not taking a bet from you, you burned the bridge dude.....Dave Mason

Transition
Dave and All,
I'm not suggesting that SW shouldn't be the motor of choice in the A Class....I'm asking for a well thought out and planned transition so that we don't lose the current field of drivers.
As I continue to state, I encourage folks to share their opinions. Please use facts when possible and then walk through your scenario. Play it out over a few years to show how it benefits the class and/or the motor manufacturer.
Insults are easy....let's hear some constructive input.

Props
Guedo,
We started side by side this year at the nationals & I did walk by you on the way to the first turn. It wasn't the end of the front stretch. It was shortly after the starting line. Joe Pater, Scott Clark, Mark Miskerik & Tim Sidor had screaming starts on the outside (which is why they passed you).
Probably had the throttle pinned at least 3 seconds before us.
Maybe you just need to leave the 102's alone & get a better wheel.

Yes you did!
The funny thing is, when I run the 302 as an OSY, the power curve acts like a 102's - higher the RPMs, faster you go.
All I'm saying, if you watch the finals of CSH at any nationals, you know the 102 is the way to go fast and win.
The 102/302 situation is very similar to if the SW A was to be slowed down and be slower than an OMC. Right now the 302 in CSH is slower than the 102 - why would any of the top-drivers even want to switch to a 302 when their 102s are so fast?

Just because you invest a lot of work and money into motors doesnt mean you will win it just gives you the chance to win, takes a lot more then a good motor to get it done. The new manifold is supposed to slow the A down so you will get your wishesDestiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

Mike its the intake manifold between the carb and the reeds. The new one has less volume then the one that is on there now or smaller passage ways. Its been tested on the runabout but not the hydro. Runne ran one at the fall Millville and swaped heats with Billy Simmons. It helped the bog in the turns on the runabout but lost a 100 RPM at top end. I found with my boats and props a 100 rpm is anywhere from a mile to a mile and a half in speed.Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

Evolution....

I'm converting both my 102 mod engines back to stock and running those this year - anyone have a good used set of points?
Once a new motor is identified for a class, no more band aids should be approved for old motors. No more after market points, no after market pistons, no straight gears..... let the pool of existing parts deplete.
This will help us accomplish a few things.- As parts become more rare the price of maintaining your old out of production motor will rise
- New motors will become more appealing
- As more participants in a class aquire new motors, not only will new power plant owners increase there influence when they vote on changes but we can expect that the difference between the slowest new motor and the fastest new motor will be far smaller due to improved technology in production.
Would the Y-80 still be around without replacement points and pistons? After the new motors is established Restricted 302 lock down the rules on the Y80. The SW has been identified as a new a motor lock down any things proposed for the OMC. Not elimante the motor or obsolete it. It will slowly show the age that it is.
Y80 40 plus years old
OMCA 30 plus, Merc 25xs 30 plus, Y102 30 plus, Merc 44XS 30 plus, would you still rely on your 1976 Ford Station Wagon to get you to the races everyweekend?

Hope you feeling better, so you can get your next boat done. Pics look great!
