      Hello from New Orla

Craig, My best guess is that your Leigh's son, so please say hello to your Dad and Jon Stone for me. I raced against them years ago. Great drivers.

Bakersfield can be a bit warm in the summer. The last time I saw Jon Stone was at Bakersfield, 1977. His big trailer was loaned up, it was Sunday, the races were over. He was sitting is a chair his ass part way in the water several New Yorkers were with him, just setting there. I walked up and said, "What's the matter, everyone has headed for the hotel, aren't you going to the awards party?

Jon just looked at me and said, "No, were heading home to night, but this place is so beautiful, it is hard to leave." Bakersfield isn't green like New York, it is very brown, but it grows on you and it is pretty!

If you see Jon, tell him, "Hello, from the land of fruits and nuts."

Here's a picture from 1978, this is Fred Hauenstein before he became "FAMOUS" as a Stock Outboarder. Freddy and I won Parker in this boat...Owned by Brad Miller who also owned the Del Taco chain of Mexican restaurants. We had a little fire at the pit stop, but we put the fiore out and went on top win! (You can see the smoke damage on the boat...) Fred had just crossed the finish line of the Parker 7 Hour...

              Trenton

Remember when Trenton was packed with stock outboards and OPC. At the old site up river. When Fast Freddy and John would go out and go deck to deck for 3 laps just to put on a show? Oh the good old days.

                Omc sst100

The short lived SST100 class. It WAS a cool class with alot of great drivers. Unfortunately it fizzled out when OMC ended their racing program. Fred Miller and the boyz did their best to keep it alive but corporate finally pulled the plug. Thanks for all your hard work during those years Fred, you done good for the sport.

Here is Ocoee Fla during the Grapefruit Circuit in 1975. Lots of turnout and great competition, and about equal turnout in the other direction, glad I was a part of it.

                    Northwestern Illinois Outboard Racing Association.
I think this was from the mid to late 1970's.
Racing in the Mississippi River, while pleasure boat traffic continued uninhibited on the other side of the river.
I think I am the last actively racing former member of that club. *sniffle*

Where were the pits at the start in 1956? I have never seen any of those buildings.
