Tom, that's great!!!....my old man always said we were sissy for *****ing about Trenton being rough!!! He won that race the year of the Detroit tornado....
I think the "TIME TRIALS" at Salton Sea were 1951 or 1952. My dad inspected Paul Sawyer's motor. Paul raced in Europe and contacted some "Fever" from drinking water...Typhoid Fever....When I first raced in Europe Ted May and I got Typhoid shots. We got so sick we decided not to take the second shot figuring we'd take our chances with typhoid.
My neighbor in Bellflower, California, Whitey Clayton, was a great body and fender man. He formed "ALTER EGO's tail fin out of aluminum. He worked for Bill Stropp and Holman and Moody. Whitey also made head "lights" out of aluminum pans for Chuck Daigh's "T" Bird that set the land speed record on Daytona Beach.
Kevin,
His name is Pete Haigh. He stopped racing in the early 70's after injuring his back in a crash. Real nice guy, always just ran BSH and always ran very well.
