Ron anyone knows that the more parts you have made the cheaper it is to make them. That being said almost all the parts for the A,B and 20 are the same just as the old Merc were. The differance between the A the B and the 20 are the sleeves and the carbs everything else is the same. The more motors sold the easier it is to keep the cost down.

Yes all those 45 omc cowlings you bought. Also you do not sound like Johnny Cash. Btw My cell phone was on charge in your car DS. The hotel had a nice bar where you and Defebo were taking and this nice local female started to bump my leg with her foot. Well we had a nice talk and it got to be past my bed time so I turned her over to Racer.bill b

Ron,
The "B" sidewinder is the primary priority of the three motors, it just hasn't had the success yet to make an impact. Racing Outboards was requested by the SORC at the National meeting in 2007 to make an "A" motor.John Runne

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.
True parity is one motor per class.

New A engine

However we got here we have the A,B, and 20 Sidewinder.
I endorse a parity plan as long as the Sidewinder A is compatible with the most competitive OMC motors that have already obsoleted the mid pack OMC A motors. The likelihood you will take your mediocre OMC, rebuild it and get to the front is very low..... I would like to see current driver and new drivers have the ability to purchase a new motor and be competitive right away and it is now possible with the Sidewinder. The path to here is fascinating but now we are here and the Sidewinder A is ready.
Sidewinder will not obsolete the field of OMCs, OMC super motors will but we see to be OK with that. We are OK with a few super Hot Rods dominating the B class, a few 102's consistently out front in the C class and one 25xs motor dominating.... do we have a double standard? Is winning an opportunity for everyone or only a few?

Let's make this interesting....
Background Info: AXR and ASR speeds at 2012 Nationals -- AXR time was faster. Now, the AXR is 30# lighter, but still a faster time (barely). Grant is 14 years old. He's too heavy to race J next year (he was 30# overweight this year and still growing). He's too young to race the B class next year. He's starting age for the A class. He wants to race more than just 2 classes (12 laps a day).
Our options: try to get an OMC working (We -- the Hearn's -- have 30 years of history with this motor -- I raced it when I was Grant's age). However, I have no idea where to start to get one of the super OMC motors. Even if I do get one going after lots of time and money (I anticipate more money than buying a new A Sidewinder), Grant will get into a class with less entrants (our local races have less AR/AH entrants than AXR/AXH entrants) and into a class that is slower/same speed (see 2012 Nationals speeds above). Doesn't feel like a good option.
Alternative 2: Buy a block, stock A Sidewinder (or two ) and immediately compete with the Super OMCs in 2013. HOPE the Commission doesn't do something to kill off the A sidewinder in January. And watch the A class flourish in 2013 with a new motor that is immediately competitive in the category. Easy answer for me (and probably any new SO member who also would have no idea how to get an OMC motor that is competitive in 2013).
Message to the SO Commission: Please don't mess up a good thing with the A Sidewinder in January.

The Johnson KR was the original " A " motor. When Mercury invented stock outboard it was the KG-4. Now there were some guys who messed around with KE-4 & KF-4's but they were service engines.
The KR was a true race engine.

Let's let the Sidewinder folks play a role in "re-inventing" stock outboard racing just like the green tank mercs did!Last edited by Dr. Thunder; 10-06-2012, 10:42 AM.Untethered from reality!

Rebuilding

Whatever performance issues currently exist will, I'm sure, be resolved in time.

Sure, that sounds good. Let's completley rebuild the two most popular classes in Stock second to CSH/20SSH.Elek Hutchinson

Why do so many racers send their Mercs to George? Probably the same reason racers sent their OMCs to guys like John Myers. Thought these were supposed to be using stock engines!Untethered from reality!
