302 Super Stock Hydro wish list ...

Lot of great ideas advanced for this class ... If I had a wish list for this class it would include:

    A) Three heats of racing.
    B) Single design boat so all boats look the same.
    C) Prize money.
    D) No entry fee.

With the above and what is already in place 302SSH would really take off.
    Untethered from reality!

You "forgot" the requirement that this class should always be the first class run so the drivers could get home to their mommies before dinnertime.

This class is now destined for failure. Now it's going to be just another Yamato modified stock class. Disappointing, we had a chance to get it right. It seemed clear (I guess only to myself) the simple decision was to keep everything stock.

This isn't directed toward Tom, not at all. He's doing what potential participants are asking them to do.

                  understand the purpose....

while I undertstand the objective of the class, is it really needed with the tons of other Yamato classes we have. Seems we keep want to be adding new classes and yet we cannot even get all the classes we currently have ran during the day (speaking only of Reg10 right now).

not everyone wants to run Yamato's, etc........we have pissed off other class members (in classes that do not have the higher participants) that come to race, pay their entry fees (like everyone else) and do not get to race, adding another class is going to make it worse IMHO......maybe this is just a problem out here in Reg10?????

I keep hearing that we need to improve our "show", but do you really think having 6+ Yamato "stock" classes helps that goal??? Seems to me that we have (2) new Yamato classes (revamped OSY and this 302SSH) starting next year......

STOCK does NOT need any more classes!!!

Jesus You guys sound like the old people at the retirement home when they don't get their fruit cups. Give it a season before you condemn it to failure.

                        The new guy gets it

Hoosier's only has one race weekend under his belt, sure glad he's got enough sense to see the potential in the class... I'm also very happy that he doesn't buy into all the doom and gloom and abandon plans of running the closest thing to "Stock" we offer. I'm sure Dave and the 302SSH Committee will make the appropriate rules to make sure modifications are not legally made.

This is what Stock needs - a true Drivers' Class... not the necessity for a new person to take a chance on used equipment, have to have the mechanical aptitude and resources, and/or spend who knows how many years to have competitive equipment. (By the way, I am not saying it's just a 'newbie' class, it should have the most parity, and the biggest chance for success out of any we currently run in Stock).

A club does not have to run every class in the category every race, just list the individuals on the sanction - I don't understand what the problem is here...
(Also don't remember when I was at a race where everyone didn't get to race that came... except when "Saturday only" racers scratch.)

Thanks Dave and Jeff for your endeavors with the 302SSH. MHRA's Racer School supports you.

                          Failure

This class is not going to fail....it is as stock as we can possibly make it...Gweedo, I am somewhat taken back by your comments....the foot issue will keep it eligible for UIM Osy....do not see your issue here. As far as having another Yamato class? Stock racing has had it's membership drop by almost half in the last 15 years (something close to that) if we are to survive as a group something needs to be done. This class fits that bill. You can take your 302ssh rig and run the class, then go run 3 or 4 other classes. Stock outboarding needs a strong base....something we can build on. And to those people that do not like the concept of the class? Why? What are YOU doing to help bring new people in? Sell them old junk stuff you have sitting in your basement that nobody really wants? Stuff that some people do buy, run for a year or two, get frustrated, and we never see them again? (this is not aimed at anybody in paticular) We HAVE to look outside the box for this sport to grow. We have no choice. Please please PLEASE....consider what you are saying when u put this class down....comments like this class is going to fail are only going to hurt stock outboarding. If the naysayers out in racing land start bashing this thing you are only going to ourselves. As of November 1 it is an official stock outboard class. Done deal. And....there are gonna be some really cool things coming up promotion wise.....can't say much right now but trust me if things happen like it hope they will people are really gonna want to go out and get a rig and run.

that comment was specific to region 10 races the last few years. we have racers show up with DMODS, FE and some pro classes who all too often are placed at the end of the schedule. several times the last couple years these folks don't get to run or fall victim to a "one-heat" format. they sit in patrol boats and volunteer all day while guys who run a 302/hydro run 4 classes (5 if they run CMOD). the argument was made that now if we run 302SSH the schedule gets longer and guys are going to get screwed. JUST A CLARIFICATION HUTCH...

i was wondering how long it was going to take davey to get butt-hurt again. i hope this new class is a success also. i've expressed my feelings long ago but give dave and jeff the props for trying.

UIM lower units are shaped in some way. The dementions and shape of the 302ssh gear case are similar dimensions to UIM. It is still a stock lower unit, including a 16 mm prop shaft.

If memory serves me correct, there are no dimensions in the pro rule book (Yet) on the 302 gear foot.....I am going to ask Mr Greaves about this....but I have been told but a few people that the 302 ssh foot (and motor) WILL be legal to run in Osy 400. Dave
