What if we got rid of the National qualifier, split some of the Divisional so everyone wound be closer to the divisional race year after year. Things are different. It getting very expensive to travel unless you have the extra $$$$$. KB had to spend upwards of $2000.000 to go this weekend. If we are worried about more drivers having the double points raise the # of boats to 6 or 8 to get double points for divisionals.
Britnay Schwarzenbach raced her first race this weekend. Her grandfather was Dan Schwarzenbach. Dan won several 36 Runabout Nationals Championships. I recall him going to the 1957, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1968, 1970.... Nationals. Dan never went to a Nationals that he was qualified for first, except Beloit, 1970.
Dan had a familky, and owned a small boat shop. He'd work til Wednesday night, ddrive strait through to the Nationals, get there Saturday, race Sunday and drive back home and be to work by Wednesday.
A Nationals was designed to have people from all corners on the conutry competing. What has the 8 boat rule, for Divisional qualifiers done for the Sport???
I say there should be six Divisions, 2 qualifier from each Division plus the National Champion...13 boats. And all two boats to make a class.
The Natioanls is too long now, especially in these economic times.........and don't plan for gas prices to drop unless we all start racing with Natural gas in our boats and using it in our cars...Natural gas in Riverside, California is $1.47 a gallon...
Chad Hill never raced a Summer Nationals, becasue he played Junior All-American football and he could not miss a week of practice.
Dana, my understanding is, Tony won first heat, with Kyle getting second. they switch positions the second heat but the timer never told anyone until much later that they did not have times for first heat? Why they didn't know sooner is weird but that is what happened as I understand it.
What is weird also is that they said on the live feed thay had 7 boat but I guess they really had 8???? If they didn't really have 8 then it's does not really matter.
So they are both awarded 1st. What the SORC would have to decide if they had 8 boats is what do we do with National qualifier.

I watched the LIVE STREAM and the Surf Rat has it figured out!! First class live stream.
I counted 6 boats ON THE COURSE in Sundays race (four on Saturday) but then again i am on east coast. Things are different out west.
If the SORC had to decide i would vote for Tony because he is cooler.
8 boats started heat one in csh. 2 boats did not make the call for heat 2. 20ssh only had 6 boats. Don's explanation as to why tony and i tied is correct. The sorc will have to figure out what they want to do for the west national qualifier in csh as there is two winners.

I left the race site to get back to the Vegas airport just as the first heat of CSH hit the water....and as a commisoner have been on the phone for the last couple of hours talking to those people involved and with Jeff Brewster....we are going to have a stock commisoner meeting thursday evening to determine what to do about this.....

I havent heard about this meeting?? Several of the SORC Commissioners will be on the road to Taber City thursday..........
Matt: Jeff and I discussed the issue at hand today....I said maybe thursday works for everybody, which does not seem to be the case. Can you contact Jeff and we can work out another day that fits everybodies schedule? E mail is NOT going to work for this issue..trust me on that. Dave
Basically it looks like you have three options:
Send one
Send None
Send Both
If you feel you gotta make a choice and since there are no times to fall back on, make life easy and do like they do in motocross, best finish in the second heat takes the prize.
Doesn't always seem fair but if you had this rule in place and you know the rules going into each event it is fair.
Also, realizing this isn't an issue very often, but it could come up periodically. Probably should (and I hate to say it) make a new rule to implement a fail safe for the fail safe.
Cheers,
Ron
