Attention West Coast Boat Racers. Boat Racing is coming back to Northern Nevada. A tentative date has been set for August 18th and 19th. This looks like a free weekend for Region 10 and 12 and also does not interfere with Nationals. And school will not be in yet for most of the younger drivers. The race will be held in Sparks, Nevada at the "Sparks Marina". Sparks is just east of the Reno. The Sparks Marina is one of the best layouts I have seen for Spectators to watch a race. The usual Region 11 classes will be tentatively be hosted. More information will be posted as this event comes together.

Sparks Marina Race
The Sparks Marina was an old gravel pit just north of I-80. It filled in with water from the Truckee River (south of I-80) that overflowed in the 1997 flood. The place NCOA used to race at was Paradise Park over 20 years ago. That was redesigned 15 years ago and cannot accommodate racing. Attached is a picture where I drew a 4,100 long course. I am thinking the course will be set closer to a ¾ mile course. The sidewalk around the lake is 12 feet above lake level.Attached Files

This Is It!
We always talk about needing race sites with lots of exposure to promote and interest new people in the sport. This it guys, just about in downtown Sparks, which is part of the Reno metropolitan area. This town loves motor sports, i.e. Hot August Nights, a big MC event called Street Thunder, Reno Air Races and the Summit Racing Store and Warehouse is less than 2 miles away. Also the largest Sporting Goods Store in the US, Scheels, is within within sight of the course and can be walked to. Cabela's is only a short distance away. Lots of other fun things to do, just don't lose all your money and have to hitch hike home.
The City of Sparks has given us their blessing and is hardly charging us anything to use the facilities and really wants us there. All the parking is paved, a nice large sandy launching area, an RV park a short distance away and a hotel-casino right on the lake. There will be lots of people there, as there is a very nice shopping area right on the lake with lots of trendy shops.
We are going to be going out to local businesses for sponsorship and hopefully they will be generous so that we can offer low registration fees and maybe even some tow money. Everything is in the planning stages right now, so stay tuned.
But to make this a success and hopefully a permanent event, we need to show up in force with lots of boats. So put this on your calendar and start putting away some bucks and vacation time now, so you can come.
If you have any questions or need further information feel free to contact me or Craig of the Williams Racing Team.

Attention West Coast Racers. The City of Sparks has approved us to have a boat race. This is a free weekend for all west coast regions. Mark it on your calender. Sanction should be posted soon. Presently working on getting some sponsors for tow money. More information will be posted later on Racing classes. If you have a class that we don't normally have, but you can bring at least 5 entires, please get a hold of me.
We have a block of Rooms at the Western Village Inn and Casino next to the Sparks Marina Parking lot for $55 per night plus taxes. You must make reservations 14 days in advance. The Sanction will have details.
Brett and I were down at the Marina today. We meet Bill and Kay Boyes. Guess who we see on the boat ramp checking the place out is Dave Anderson, APBA Stock Commissioner from Region 10. What are the chances for him up show up when we were go to meet to discuss the race and view the site. I will let Dave tell you what he thought of the place. Here are a couple of pictures.Last edited by WilliamsRacingTeam; 06-10-2012, 06:01 PM.
