  • New D boat

    Here is a pic of my new Tohatsu D boat in front of shop. Ran a hose to a tank under lower unit and test fired motor a few minutes after pic was taken. So far so good....testing everything in less then 3 weeks.

        New Tohatsu D boat

        Well...if nothing else...it is bright. It is so freakin hard to pick colors out at the paint store....but it came out ok. The way I keep wrecking boats I did not wanna spend tons of time on the finish work....thus there are quite a few flaws in paint. But for a novice painter I think I did allright.. All I need now is a new steering wheel (thanks Aaron) and the cables hooked up and I am ready to go. Numbers are going on Monday, just a few minor details left and I am ready to get cut off!!

          Very cool Dave .

          Colors are very retro looking if you ask me ...I like .

          Yes R10 is going to be good for the spectator and racer this year .

            New Tohatsu D boat

            Yah...I was sorta going for the retro look...I saw paint job like this on an old ski jet boat from the 70's....I thought...hey...that's kinda cool. I was a major pain to get the curves done right....I bet there is a trick to it that I do not know....

              New Tohatsu D boat

              I took the dimensions of wrecked boat and tweaked them a little bit..I was very happy with the way rig handled...but it did sorta want to "swap ends" when driven hard into a corner, so I made the right sponson slightly wider as well as making the left airtrap just a little deeper then the right.....hopefully it will not want to can up and will turn a little better. Lofted up plans for it in late October....first time I have used honeycomb for bottom and cockpit sides...a new experience for me to say the least. I have somewhere around 125 hours into construction, not counting design time. Aaron Salmon was supposed to help my build it....but for whatever reason he never showed up or contacted me..I have to say I am a little dissapointed, but I did get it done on my own. Going testing 3 weeks from yesterday (feb 18th) hopefully everything will work ok....had motor gone thru as well...not sure if I should rebuild the carbs....they seem to be ok. I also have some new props coming...out of the 9 or 10 props I own I have only found 2 that work well....I think the Tohatsu is harder to prop for then the 44XS....we will see.

                        Blue = Speed

                        Quite a bit of history for fast and blue. Donald Campbell had his "Bluebird" on water as well as land. Richard Petty had the "Petty blue" Plymouths. I think Mickey Thompson's 400mph+ streamliner on the Salt Flats was blue as well. But then I guess I just like blue.
