each boat has different characteristics, size, weight, etc..........some are built to driver specifics........it all comes down to driver preference and how comfortable the driver feels in the boat.....

what class boat are you looking for and how much do you weigh??? I am sure there are plenty of good boats for sale (or can be built) in Reg10 that would suit your need/needs........

all those boats are good. there are a couple more not on your list that would be good choices also.

good time of the year to get interested in racing. if you would like to go for a ride shoot me an email. i test with a couple guys just a bit south (30 minutes) of you. we would love to have you come hang out with us on a testing trip. take a ride in a couple different boats. try a runabout or maybe an A or D hydro with us also. your weight plays a big part in what boat you will enjoy racing. come get to know the guys/girls that race in our area. lots of good used equipment for sale and if your looking for a new boat everyone on your list and a few others will be willing to build just what you want.

stock outboard racing is the best bunch of people you will ever meet. come hang with us...

                LennyF,

As has been said, each make is as good as any other. If you canvass enough you will get as many opinions as there are different boats and drivers for each class boat you inquire about. In my opinion, there are no guarantees that two of the same make are the same; unless the builder can unequivocally testify to the build specification and history of any two or more boats in question.

If you are in the market, I would recommend, as my mentors did; drive some different boats and form your own opinion from the verbal and seat of the pants input.

Don’t be afraid to ask an owner or club for a ride.

Have you been to a Racer School yet? It’s not necessary mandatory however it is a good way to start developing your boat racers network and get exposure to different equipment. The hosting club can also help guide you to the class and quality equipment that best fits your needs, desires and budget. Please do not step in blind; keep talking and we will find you a mentor in your area.

There is a very active club in your region, have you made contact with them?
http://seattleoutboard.org/ If you have not, but want to, just say the word here and you will be on your way to a new kind of summer fun.

Keep your eye on MichiganHydroplaneTV You-Tube channel for a growing list of informative kneel down racing content.
                Raymond

                  Lenny,

MJR is now MRC (the company sold a couple of years ago) contact Blueskyracer here on hydroracer for information on those hulls. MRC built the 2010 National Champion C Stock boat! There are several used C-hulls, even one complete set up available in the Spokane, WA area that I know of. Also check the buy sell forum here on hydroracer.net.

Welcome to hydroracer, we hope you enjoy your visit.

                    More confusing advice

After many years of observation as well as first hand experience there is no single make that you can depend on to be a winner every time out. You really need to decide on a class to run and then find out who builds the best boat for that particular class. Of course there are other variables to this equation as some guys can win in anything. Also, most builders don't build boats for every class either, but will tend to specialize in those that have had the best success in the past. I have avoided injecting my own bias into answering your main question but my avatar picture gives it away anyhow.

To answer your first question, a CSH will weigh anywhere from 95 pounds to 140 pounds. As long as you are under 190 pounds, any boat up to about 130 will be fine. As an experienced driver, I would recommend an MRC (MJR, TBR) for starters. They are less tedious than a hemp, and the higher sides can help with the "safe" feeling you may desire. Blueskyracer can build you one at a reasonable price, and I'll be the first to recommend his boats. They are sturdy, durable, easy to drive, and fast.

As for your second question: there is little difference between a good boat and a beater. It really boils down to how it is set-up. This comes with experience and wisdom. I've seen mid-pack boats set-up well and they become front-runners. The inverse is the same; take a front-runner and give it to someone without the experience, and it becomes a back marker.

Take your time and talk to many people.
